And yes, I made a reference to Civilization in that regard. Because when you undo all the whitewashing history that has been done to the man his real life attitude was similar to his parodied behavior in the game. Hey, I'll address the video. So...this guy wants a statue of Gandhi removed, and the reasons he gives are incomprehensible, at least to me, and it doesn't help the audio in this is fucking awful. So I looked at his campaign and some of his writing, and I'm still really confused about why he wants the statue down.
Gandhi is by no means the beacon of peace, love, and harmony and all that shit that he has been idolized into, but this guy claims Gandhi was a racist because he...talked about how racist the British were? So, because Gandhi wrote about the racist things that the British said and did, he himself is a racist? OK.
Then he claims that Gandhi also did nothing to improve the caste system in India. As far as I know, that's only partially true in a Tumblr-understanding of the world type way. He actively denounced the caste system, but seemed to basically move away from the issue and not care about it much the closer that India got to independence and his record on the issue is pretty spotty, but to say he "defended" the caste system is something I think is basically simplifying the issue to a retarded degree.
Gandhi initially opposed the British giving the "untouchable" caste equal weighting in Parliamentary voting processes because he thought that what would happen is they would refuse to cooperate with the upper castes out of protest and that there would be no unity amongst the Hindu community. You can argue that this was a bad reasoning and that Gandhi was wrong, but it's not quite the same thing as Gandhi literally saying he supports the caste system and wants to keep it enforced. Actual history matters.
His argument that better, African figures would make better statues is certainly a good one. But, some of his other reasoning is....iffy.

Maggot Brain - 2017-09-06 yeah, it's not like they put up the statue in 1957 to celebrate Ghana's peaceful independence movement, they put it up last year to celebrate India's growing investments in the county.
Modi is a shitty gift giver. Ghana should re-gift this statue to Canada or something.
