Why is there a need to remake great british shows in the US anyways? Some legal thing?
One word: syndication. Getting to that magic 52 episode mark means royalty checks forever. Things are opening up with streaming, but prior to the internet, only UHF PBS stations were airing BBC comedy, but every channel had "Three's Company" and "All in the Family", and the British show runners saw a kickback from those translations. If you can get a 52 episode syndication package, you're on every TV in the industrialized world.
So not only did they try their hand at making Peep Show, but they also ignore the central gimmick of shooting entirely POV? The thing that makes it a peep show as we see it from the intimate perspective of the person who's thoughts we're listening in on? Brilliant.
