I'm a big fan of the current Tim Burtonesque era of Wes Anderson.
|
cognitivedissonance - 2017-10-05 I like this seems to be a cross between Akira and the 800 Blows.
|
Adjuvant - 2017-10-04
I love Wes Anderson movies and I don't care who knows it.

|
15th - 2017-10-05 I was bit harsh, I have friends that like his stuff and I don't think less of them. But, I sure think he is shit.
|
cognitivedissonance - 2017-10-05 Whenever you’re down on Wed Anderson, remember he’s not Tim Burton, and has adamantly refused to be.

That guy - 2017-10-05 poorwill, have you met practically no people?
Or are you just invoking the "whoever smelt it dealt it" rule of hipsterism because it's obnoxious fun??
|
poorwill - 2017-10-05 i'm pretty sure that's my point you're jacking there. he's detested - by hipsters - for being a hipster. it's ironic (like everything else swirling around this hipster toilet bowl). he gets shit on by a lot of people because he has an easily identifiable formula and recognisable aesthetics ... and pointing out a formula is pretty much all it takes for idiots to fool themselves into thinking they're brilliantly incisive critics.
personally, i think he skirts some (not all) the criticisms he gets (affected, twee, whatever) because unlike a lot of filmmakers that people lump him in with (charlie kaufmann, spike jonze, tim burton etc.) or are similar but people give a pass to for some reason (terry gilliam, stanley kubrick), he is actually capable of giving his movies decent character moments and a bit of actual humanity, even if he's a bit autistic about it. or maybe because he's autistic about it - it takes talent to do that.
|
15th - 2017-10-05 I wouldn't say he's untalented, he just saturates his films in a style I really, really don't like. Stanley Kubrick has a distinctive style, sure, but in my hipster opinion -it's extremely tasteful, masterful, and never overshadows the narrative. If Kubrick wasn't killed by the illumanti for faking the moon landing, Anderson wouldn't be worthy enough to clean his folds.
|
That guy - 2017-10-06 Even though we have different movie tastes (or values, even), I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you are not so stupid as to believe that ONLY hipsters don't like Wes Anderson, becuase that is . . . that's insane.

Quad9Damage - 2017-10-05
Wes Anderson.
Paul Thomas Anderson.
Paul W.S. Anderson.
I keep getting my Andersons mixed up.
