They're right about the age appreciation.

I sat behind three kids half my age, and while one on the end was utterly transfixed with the film (as was I), his two companions were engrossed with text messages and chatting with each other. They took me, and presumably him as well as anyone else nearby, right out of it.

It's a beautiful, well-paced film, that's spoiled more by its attending audience than by the flaws within.

Somebody was texting in front of me too during this one. An older lady, though. At least it wasn't constant. Great movie, definitely prefer it to the noisy wisecracking superhero movies like Justice League that previewed before the movie started, but I'm only slightly younger than the old texting lady.

I went in spoiler-free, having seen nothing of trailers or previews, only knowing through the monstrously large poster out front that HARRISON FORD was top-billing for his immense role in the film, and some Gosling guy too.

Needless to say, I wasn't amused by the pre-show circlejerk showing playful interviews and clips of the film I was mere minutes from watching.

Portal of evil. Here's a fifth imaginary star to my four above just for idiotic preview shows.

My theater didn't have that, so it must have been a chain/regional thing. I did have a lot of shitty trailers and the usual "get excited about this garbage TV show that will be cancelled after one season" type thing. There were maybe 5 people at my location, but then it's a small "Art" theater within walking distance from my house that, despite being part of a huge United Artists chain, pretty much only plays the not-popular/drama/art house stuff. It also got kinda shoved out of being a relevant theater when not far from here another theater opened with fancy sound, picture, and giant leather seats. I love that place to death, but I fear it will be gone soon like all the old theaters in this city to make way for more ultraplex shit places that put Transformers 8 on 50 screens and can barely make a profit.

On thinking about the movie for a few days now, really my only significant complaint about BR2049 (apart from minor, ultimately unimportant things) is that I think Villeneuve made a tiny mistake in the flashbacks and callbacks within the film. I know that most movie-goers these days are fucking retarded and literally sometimes DO need shit explained to them in detail (see the reactions to his film Arrival), but I felt like it was a concession that shouldn't have been made. We really didn't need all the visual reminders. "Remember this thing that K just talked about, like, 10 minutes ago? Let's flash back to that a few times, *juuuuust* to make sure you get it."

Robin Kestrel - 2017-10-10

This. It first happens like 10 minutes into the movie.

Sauce is always an autofive. I'll give five stars to Worcestershire sauce, tartar sauce, Frank's Red Hot.... Unlike Sex, drugs, and mineown ambition, sauce has never let me down.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-10-09

Okay, that was meant to be posted elsewhere.

Unlike Sauce, I've always thought BLADE RUNNER was overrated. It's like the original GHOSTBUSTERS, which is a good movie, sure, kid,.but no mere film can be THAT good! there's a documentary called GHOST HEADS where half the fans start breaking into turns during interviews. Sorry, that's just fucking sad. I break into tears at the end of IKIRU, but not when talking about it.

BLADE RUNNER is METROPOLIS with a nice meta twist, which is a good idea for a movie. Nothing wrong with it. Calm the fuck down, everybody.

THAT FUCKING SZECHUAN SAUCE

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-10-09

DISCLAIMER: If you love a movie, and I don't, even if the movie is objectively a piece of shit, ypour opinion matters more than I do. Let's be clear about that. .

Also, here's the thing., I've discovered a Chuck Lorrre Comedy on HULU called MOM, starring Allison Janney and Anna Farris, and co-starring Kevin Pollack, and a laugh track machine, which I really like. So there's that.

This doesn't make me a bad person, but it makes me old, tired, and ready to die. I can't deny it.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-10-09

>>>> tumblrites who can't admit GhostBusters '16 was bad

We've been here before, haven't we, Nikon?

I believe in you. I know that one day, you'll find the strength to carry on in a world where some people like the movie you hate.

If it helps, Tumblr is an unholy clusterfuck.

I feel like these guys define themselves on being able to criticise a movie for whatever reason they feel necessary. I always thought the original blade runner was fucking amazing, like probably one of, if not my most favourite film, and I never thought the story or the movie was boring. What a contrite piece of shit thing to say, albeit you might actually like a film, and then you would have to fucking hang yourself. Get fucked. Bladerunner 2049 is what it should be, and the only reason it's better than the original Bladerunner is because it's 2017 and this is what cinema is meant to fucking be people. I am shocked that a hollywood big budget film is actually a film. The last time this happened was The Revenant. So be upstanding, and charge your glasses to hollywood actually making cinema, and here's to more films being written about shit that maybe you've never thought about before...

dairyqueenlatifah - 2017-10-09

I had intended to go see this today, but I ended up not having time. At around 4pm, I looked at every showing for the rest of the day. One showing had two seats sold, another had four sold. The rest were completely deserted, not a single seat sold. It was mind blowing. No one in my city of millions is watching this movie.

I can't for the life of me figure out why such a high profile film full of A-list actors with universal acclaim is bombing so hard.

tesla_weapon - 2017-10-09

I don't know about you, but when a film either gets bad reviews, or bombs at the box office, I'm more inclined to watch it.

To be fair, Harrisson Ford hasn't had any big box office hits since apparently 2000, and I actually knew who Ryan Gosling was, but when I looked him up on IMDB I hadn't actually seen a single one of his films.

Maybe some people think 2 1/2 hours is too long, and maybe some other people think there's no decent female roles. Some criticism was thrown at the trailers not being helpful, and millennials are too young to have seen the original, and too busy to watch it before going to see this. It was also suggested the casual movie goer already saw IT this month...

Plus the director was a French Canadian nobody (which actually gave me hope it might be good) and Ridley Scott produced it (which actually made me nervous that it would be shit) and it's fucking amazing, the sound especially. Looking now, I saw Sicario that Villaneuve did, and I had no idea who he was when I watched it, but now that I think about it, it was a typical alphabet soup kill the terrorists movie, but it was kinda more than that without upsetting too many rambo fans. But Bladerunner 2049 is just them cutting loose.

I'm actually really really fucking sad now to know that it bombed in the box office, because that means nobody else is going to get $150m to make more shit like it.

But then again, most people I know that are definitely going to watch this film haven't seen it yet, maybe it will steadily gain numbers? Fuck, I hope so...

dairyqueenlatifah - 2017-10-09

Well Harrison Ford starred in Star Wars: The Force Awakens less than two years ago, an insanely popular film that grossed over $2 billion. Not sure if that counts though since plenty of other actors who haven't had a box office presence in decades were in that movie too.

tethercat - 2017-10-10

(he's not a nobody oot this way, eh?)
