It has been a long time since an objectively great show had such a horrible (well at least, partial) fanbase.

Rick works as a character because he is sad and angry because of his intelligence.

Pseudo-intellectualy fanboys who think themselves smart don't work because IT IS A SHOW NOT A JUSTIFICATION FOR BEING AN ASS JUST CUZ YOU THINK YOU ARE INTELLIGENT
Maggot Brain - 2017-10-10
this, all of my stars *****

SolRo - 2017-10-10
I think rick is an ass because he’s an ass. He also happens to be smart and uses that as an excuse to be an ass.

Bort - 2017-10-10
Good call on Rick. He has all the intelligence to accomplish anything he wants, but he hates that he's still human enough to care about his family. That which gives his life meaning, is also that which holds him back.

Meanwhile, Jerry -- dumb ol' Jerry -- he is at least happy in his infuriating perpetual stupor. Jerry is "winning", and that is galling to Rick.

This probably isn't Shakespeare, but it's got its share of nuance, and it deserves better fans.

I find R&M fairly bleh. I've watched it all, but I'm *just* over the cusp of being bothered to do so, probably spurred by the fact that I really like a lot of the Roiland TV stuff, that shit is funny! I mainly find R&M mildly distracting and sometimes amusing, but very rarely that *funny* (pretty much just the interdimensional tv bits).
Who is R&M aimed at? Its not that funny, its not that smart, it has many elements of but is not a conventional drama show. It seems to be compromised diluted mix of many things. Thats probably why its so popular, it appeals to the widest audience by being a jack of all trades but master of none.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2017-10-10
Also I havent watched the video but I assume the 'smash' in the title refers to the 'have sex with' meaning of the word.

Raggamuffin - 2017-10-10
If you think you're Rick, you aren't. Nor should you want to be. If you're LUCKY, reaaaally lucky, you're Morty.

I watch the show, but had no idea how popular it was. What's more, I certainly didn't know that their was a big chunk of sick assholes in the fanbase with an entire, like, meme-culture? So I'm learning a lot lately!

Rick and Morty is the nerdy mad-scientist version of one of those movies where a Tough Guy murders a whole bunch of people to rescue his daughter or wife or pet hamster. It tells us that you can be a self-absorbed sociopath who treats the majority of people as disposable garbage and yet still be redeemed as long as you care about a few close friends or family members.

I can't imagine why it attracted a noxious fan base.

Gmork - 2017-10-11
I think the whole fanbase argument is kind of moot considering 70% of all humans are garbage.

SolRo - 2017-10-11
Whatever, you loser nerds. Only cool people watch the shows I like!

Cena_mark - 2017-10-10
Rick and Morty has the worst fandom ever.

You can get rid of that by deleting your cookies, at least until, or if you log in to Goog or Ytube again.

Private Browsing windows also help.

I heard about a McDonald’s manager throwing the sauce away because he was a Bojack Horseman fan.

Yeah, this made me feel unpleasant, to the point that it kind of surprised me.

Part of me is amused to see him stomp on the sauce, for schadenfreude, but then I feel a little ashamed because all of this is stupid and ultimately I just feel sorry for everyone involved. I want people to like what they like but, being human, I can't help but judge and/or feel superior, and consequently, I'm reminded how I'm not really any "better".

I get overenthusiastic about stuff all the time and tempering that enthusiasm around people who don't share it is one of the lessons one learns as a dork who also wants to get along with normal people, who don't typically want to hear about all the minute differences between the 3rd generation of A-body El Caminos and Chevelles, from 1968-1972...

Anyways, I feel bad for the kids yelling for their meaningless garbage sauce, unwitting little suckers that they are, and I hate Not Quite Mastodon for stomping on that packet with his chintzy Chinese boots (which look purchased for the occasion) after presumably putting in the same amount of (or more) effort as all the kids he's taunting just to get that shit in the first place. Way to punch up by picking on some sad-as-fuck cartoon nerds, while simultaneously stooping to their level...

Either way, I know one thing for certain: McDonald's wins, we all lose, and the world gets a little more sad and venal.

As for my opinion on the show, I watched some clips and it's not my jam, but that's fine, and I'm glad some of you folks can enjoy it in a way that doesn't make me feel sorry for you. Keep on keepin' on, fellow dorks!

the only thing more annoying than what's happened to the fan base of the show is the rebranded hipsters who hate on it.
Space Odin - 2017-10-11
The show is entertaining to me. No really, it is. What blows my mind at all of this is how this all ballooned over such a throwaway joke. The whole point of that sauce reference is how obscure, transient, and pointless a marketing campaign it was. They really chose this as a thing to latch on to?
