The end of The Boy Scouts was really like 30 to 40 years ago when various things in the media started getting people woke to the idea that sometimes kids get molested and that getting molested was probably bad for the kids.

A lot of people, being the lazy morons that they are, decided it was probably better to dilute the activities than it was to take a more direct role in providing genuinely healthy experiences for their children.

The righties would rather sacrifice the Boy Scouts to destroy the Girl Scouts.

I would love to see the boy scouts and girl scouts just merge into a single organization.

I was a Scout for a few years, though I never got to Eagle, which requires a supreme sacrifice of dignity. Some of it was good fun, but most of it was just a lot of toxic, fragile masculinity garbage being crowbarred into it by the bitter and miserable old men who ran the program. I got singled out for a lot of shit because my parents were divorced so I did most of my scout stuff with my mom which got the proto-MRA shit heads that were in charge of my local troops all hot and bothered because, in the Boy Scouts, NO GIRLS ALLOWED!!!11 At one point, one of the worst of them tried to argue I shouldn't be allowed to be a scout if I don't "have a father."
Anyway, my mom, who was a teacher at the school where I did most of my scouting stuff, was also friends with a lot of other teachers there who were mostly women and mostly ran the Girl Scout troops so,long story short, I ended up spending a lot of time at Girl Scout events and activities and shit too, and eventually I was spending more time doing Girl Scout stuff than I was the Boy Scout stuff. While I'm sure some GS troops do lame-ass shit, these ones did a lot of fun, interesting stuff and it was great because nothing carried this dumb machismo baggage. I have no idea what Scouts are like now, but I would guess making them more inclusive would probably make them more fun and more likely to produce well-rounded people, rather than what it was becoming (at least in the 80s).

Personally, I could give a shit. You want to force the Boy Scouts to take in girls, that's fine. I hated Boy Scouts growing up. My parents dragged me into it by my toes to make me socialize and it just made me feel like even more of an outcast. And that boring-ass magazine. Who cares.

But as others have mentioned, being a Boy Scout doesn't make you any less of a teenager. You put raging boy hormones next to raging girl hormones and there's gonna be a lot of shared sleeping bags when Scout Master's asleep. Hell, maybe the Right Wingers have this all wrong. It might be the best time in history for a boy to join up.
