From wikipedia article on GW170817
The gravitational wave signal lasted for approximately 100 seconds starting from a frequency of 24 hertz (cycles per second). It covered approximately 3000 cycles, increasing in amplitude and frequency to a few hundred Hz
Does that mean before they collided they were orbiting each other a few hundred times per second??? If so that is mind boggling..
Also if someone can clarify this please do.
When I 1st read about neutron stars it kinda broke my brain, something that weighs as much as the sun, is as big as a mountain and is rotating 100's of times per second.

Yeah, for the last second or so.
It also blew out a cloud of gold, platinum, rare earths and weird radioactive elements, about 6% of a solar mass.
