Based on a story by Robert Bloch. The ending is a bit different.

"Irma giggled once more, raising the figure as she spoke. "Why, it's only—candy!""

Yeah, it would've been something if they'd kept that ending.

He wrote the screenplay to the film, based on old Amazing Stories shorts he'd written, so I guess that was his choice. The first short, starring Denholm Elliott, is almost beat for beat swiped for Inside No. 9's Krampus episode, including the final sentence.

Yeah, I know Bloch had worked with Amicus Studios (maker of this film; Bloch joked that Amicus was apparently Latin for "no budget"). I wonder if the change was made because candies like those weren't in the UK? (Though to be honest, the only wax candies I remember as a kid were wax lips and Nick-L-Nips, which were wax bottles filled with sugary syrup.)

Isn’t it true that no blood drips from the house at all in this movie?

There is no blood dripping in any way in this movie, BUT it has Jon Pertwee playing a role Vincent Price turned down because the idea of vampirism transferring by simply putting on a vampire's cape was "silly".
