Ass to ass!
Fuck it, five hype stars.
I just adore the ova and the manga, gonna lose my grumpy grognard cap and fanboy it up for this one idgaf.
Remember hearing about his years ago and thinking uuuugh but if I arrive sane in the summer of 2018 this will be like shootin' cotton candy in my eyeballs.
But why the dead eyes? Why must the abyss stare back at us?
A year or two ago I would have hated this trailer, but after GITS it's nice to see a western anime adaptation really stick with the look of the original art.
The characters look like they are supposed to look.
Also Cristoph Waltz
Oh Giganto-Eyes, I just can't seem to get past you...
5 stars for nightmare eyes. This was such a bad decision.
I'm probably the second biggest weeb here and I still don't like the eyes, uncanny valley and all that.
Should have just gone with some crazy colored contacts or anything else.
What works in animation/comics doesn’t necessarily work in reality. See also; giant spikey hair, 500lb body builders

Haven't they been trying to make this movie for like 20 god damn years?
Yeah, it's been at least since the mid-to-late 90s. I remember reading articles about "James Cameron's Alita" in Animerica for god's sake.

They made her eyes like that to sidestep accusations of white-washing, didn't they?
Alita was actually set in the US, with characters intended to be basically American descendants (though stylized artistically as the typical anime people), so I don't think whitewashing will be an issue. At least, I would hope.
The actress is Latino...so off-white washing?
I want to hate on this, but I'm actually gonna be open minded because 1.) I have a soft spot for cyberpunk movies 2.)I shit all over Ghost In the Shell pretty badly as a kneejerk reaction and after seeing it a couple times I actually warmed up to it and kinda felt it was a lot better than I (or a lot of people) gave it credit for.
To be honest, the eyes thing is less a problem for me than the fact it's being directed by Robert Rodriguez who is kind of "Tarantino-lite" and doesn't really seem to have the sophistication for anything behind grindhouse stuff or things like Spy Kids. To me, that's the biggest stumbling block.
GITS felt like a pretty strait adaption.
I'll watch it, love the first viewing, then really hate it upon reflection and subsequent viewings.
Anyone here still read it? Mars Chronicle is just as good as Last Order and the original Battle Angel were.
I'm all in on this adaptation. Goosebumps and everything.
I've been waiting for the official license for Mars Chronicles. Kodansha will be publishing it starting next February.
"anime was a mistake"
AHHHHHH KILL IT WITH FIRE
Aside of the nightmare fuel eyes and some questionable CGI this actually looks okay.
