After another hour, it learned what a boring game Chess is and opened up some cat videos instead.

Dude, you were just treated to watch history being made. On the one hand you have bigger search space, brute force, specialized on this game with huge dictionaries of opening and closing times. On the other you have a slower, smaller search space, GENERAL LEARNING algorithm.

Everything says the more specialized competitor with the bigger search space will win. Instead it gets its digital ass handed to it. Out of 100 games, it didn't win one.

This is an inflection point in history. We're so used to machine algorithms beating us in a brute-force manner that we're not noticing how they're QUALITATIVELY improving.

This year when Bort was replaced by a bot that randomly generates Markov chains of anti-Bernie screeds, we all noticed and called it out. Next year we might not!

This kind of stuff is cool and useful but adds don't drink the strong SO kook aid, it's a sham.

This video shows a demonstration of a very elegant method of solving a series of problems that are inherently easier for computers to solve than for our brains to solve, nothing more enothimg less. Imbibing it with some mystical notion of personhood undersells the simplicity of it AND the complexity of actual sentience.

Personhood, sentience: No.

Lateral thinking, structured thinking, unguided thinkin: Yes.

Still hella impressive. I'd argue that "inherently easier for computers to solve" misses the point completely: it's Stockfish that did things the easy-for-computers way, and it got served.

You earned these haha

Let's see it win a dice based game, I call DM.

Lateral determinism will fuck up its unabstracted little mind.
