i'm old and sad enough to remember the original thread on the SA forums.

blue vein steel - 2018-01-06

So maybe a "Something Awful" tag

Marlon Brawndo - 2018-01-06

Sony is the Tommy Wiseau of studios. Are they capable of being competent at anything? This looks reprehensibly bad.

Old_Zircon - 2018-01-06

Tommy Wiseau isn't THAT incompetent.

chumbucket - 2018-01-06

Umm, Blade Runner sequel wasn't too bad.

Hazelnut - 2018-01-06

Now we need a road trip movie with Pepe and Wozak

yogarfield - 2018-01-06

Grisly Goat Simulator movie please.

Old_Zircon - 2018-01-06

This is Sony, they would definitely call him "Feels Guy" not Wojak.

Old_Zircon - 2018-01-06

Shit, back at PoeCon 2 what's-his-name who did the All Your Base song showed up in a fancy car bought with the $50k he made in mp3.com downloads in the first 6 months after that blew up, and that was like 40 years ago when it was still just a spontaneous phenomenon not an actual business with, like, industry-specific lawyers and PR firms and shit.

(If you're still here you seemed like a pretty decent guy who just got lucky, not trying to single you out just use you as an example of how even before they were called memes they were starting to become serious business).

Old_Zircon - 2018-01-06

And now a meme is President of the USA.

Old_Zircon - 2018-01-06

Well piss up a flagpole, that was all supposed to be a reply to Badideasinaction's post down below this thread.

Binro the Heretic - 2018-01-06

Is there a word for something even more generic than generic?

badideasinaction - 2018-01-06

Is this a case where they can duck paying or getting permission from the original poster by adding a space to the name?

I’m sure annoying the internet will work out great for them.

Cena_mark - 2018-01-06

No, it looks like the recognized creator is known, so I guess he sold out.

Old_Zircon - 2018-01-06

No surprise there, successful memes have been big business for quite a while now.

badideasinaction - 2018-01-07

Nah, I can’t really blame the guy for licensing the rights. Hopefully this doesn’t result in takedown notices to fan stuff, that’s all.

In this case I wasn’t used to the space in the name and wondering if Sony was attempting an Asylum Films move before doing some checking.

Hell, I’m always happy to hear someone making some bank from their surprise online hit, provided they’re not a dick; big business loves the “never sell out” ethic that screws small-time artists over.

Louddetective - 2018-01-06

Ugh, yikes. Personally, I think they should have gone with the original pitch by myself and a buddy: http://faradaylives.com/slenderman.html

M-DEEM - 2018-01-06

This is kinda news here because some stupid kids stabbed their friend nearly to death to impress this slenderman character. I think the dad of one of the stabbers is denouncing the movie.

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2018-01-06

Sure, Sony can make a Slender Man film. Meanwhile, The S From Hell is RIGHT IN THE TRAILER and Sony still fails to capitalize on it.

StanleyPain - 2018-01-06

Does anyone remember that huge found footage thing that was done on YouTube about Slenderman? That was actually genuinely creepy and fairly well done and it probably cost, like, 1/800th of this piece of shit.
Apparently Sony is seriously considering shutting down their movie division, and I don't think stuff like this is helping.

badideasinaction - 2018-01-07

Marble Hornets? At least I know that was one slender man thing. The channel Night Mind does a good synopsis of a bunch of the amateur slender man things; I find it’s better with the recaps than the actual web episodes.

StanleyPain - 2018-01-07

Yeah, Marble Hornets. I actually thought that was legitimately well made an interesting for just being an internet meme thing.

badideasinaction - 2018-01-08

I've been relying on Night Mind for so those recaps - there's no way I'm catching up on the sprawl of ARGs now when his recaps are hours long too. Also for the ones that are less well-done the second hand description lets me imagine a much better product that what it really is. Except for the Adult Swim insanity, that stuff is pretty neat.

discodracula - 2018-01-09

90% of the trailer is stolen from the American version of The Ring.
