I used to work for a company that (among many oter things) repaired the "Message Repeaters" used in K-Marts. Those were the machines that periodically inserted pre-recorded voice messages into the store music.
I have no recollection of K-Mart's music source or supplier. I'm certain it was inexpensive of kind.
I *suspect* it came from the Steve Allen Music Library. The sound is very similar to other properties he owned, and he had that as a steady second income. I used to find discount albums of this kind of stuff in K-Mart record stacks, all from Steve Allen Music Library.
In the YouTube comments for this 'video,' (which are surprisingly positive), it's revealed that it's a reel-to-reel tape (probably played on an auto-reverse machine like the Tape-A-Thon), and the music was produced by Special Recordings, Inc. of Detroit.
Archive.org has some Special Recordings, Inc. LP music which was recorded for S.S. Kresge (K-Mart's parent company).
One of my earliest friends came from a white trash family that had a fat, perpetually naked baby, a massive portal to hell in their living room that you had to shimmy around if you wanted to watch TV or not die, and a greasy, fish-lipped ponytailed dad in a wife beater that "worked at Kmart headquarters" in Troy, Michigan.
As a kid, it was hard to imagine him in a suit with that fucking rat tail and stubble, and part of me sort of wondered if he was just a janitor or something. I never found out, but..yeah, he was definitely a janitor or resident serial killer.
