Probably not the pilot's fault. The guys you see on the bottom left are responsible for guiding the pilot in to park the plane.
When I worked at the airport, I saw a pilot misguided by a ground crew into some equipment and he tore a chunk off of one of the engines. That cost half a million to fix.
A friend of mine worked at Logan Airport throughout the 90s, the things he saw...
The one that really stuck with me was when a loaded baggage cart got loose, rolled at high speed about 100 yards across the loading area and crashed into the landing gear of a jet, in full view of the passengers waiting at the gate. Everyone just acted like nothing happened and continued with their work as usual.
