A substancial minority of Chile's population is of Italian descent, so that might have something to do with it. Then again Argentinians sound extremely Italian while speaking Spanish too.

First the Gaturro movie and now this nonsense.

I've never been able to quite figure the Chilean accent. It does sound slightly Italian, but in terms of the accents that surround it, it's something of an isolate.

I can see why you'd think that some of this sounds a bit like Italian, but it's still nowhere near as Italian as an average Argentine sounds. Even Argentines will tell you that, compared with other Spanish-speakers, they "sing" their words.
