If you think about it, war is utterly fucking insane and humans (STILL) participating in it is a completely valid excuse for an advanced alien race to glass this planet.
Any alien race that has genocide in their toolkit is also practising war though. Also: "Artillery adds dignity to what would otherwise be a vulgar brawl"
