Amedee Van Beuren was notoriously cheap, exploitative, and grossly ignorant on how animation actually worked. He insisted on doing all the hiring, had poor eyesight, and so applicants would just submit traced comic strips as a portfolio and he’d hire them. He refused to step foot in his own animation studio, and worked in an office several miles away, gave a film footage quota on a weekly basis, and so the animators would loop anything they could to make the quota. By the time he actually looked at the film the animator in question would be long gone for a better studio.
