As it should be.

You're supposed to laugh at the clown, not take him seriously, believe the things he says or elect him to any office.

Didn't seem like a big deal. He was pretty good natured about it and the laughter seemed collegial, the reports didn't seem to capture this.
Anaxagoras - 2018-09-26
The initial laughter was *not* collegial. They were laughing at his ridiculous boasts. Then, in a rare moment of "roll with it", Trump seemed to show good-natured self-deprecation. That sparked the second, louder wave of laughter, which probably was collegial.

Given Trump's history of pettiness & inability to laugh at himself, I'm wondering if he misunderstood the initial laughter & thought they were laughing with him somehow. Regardless, I'll give him points for a surprisingly graceful recovery. But the fact that world leaders were initially laughing *at* him is very significant, for a number of reasons.

It wasn't mocking laughter - that would be overkill - but they're still laughing at him. Everyone, including Trump, knew it was an unironic boast that wasn't intended to be a joke.

cognitivedissonance - 2018-09-26
If laughed at by the poor, they're disrespectful and above their station. If laughed at by other rich people, OH HO I MEANT TO DO THAT.

TeenerTot - 2018-09-26
Now he says those lines were supposed to get a laugh.

Two Jar Slave - 2018-09-26
...and The Room was intended as a "dark comedy."

poorwill - 2018-09-26
lmao. intentional or not, pretty much everything he does is a joke: https://twitter.com/thinkignofaname/status/1044683043385094145

gmol - 2018-09-26
You guys do realize the room is filled with politicians. Do you really think that the laughter was rooted in some sense of purity?

poorwill - 2018-09-27
you dingleberry, they were just laughing at him bragging about how great he is. you can be an asshole and still think donald trump is a pathetic loser. fuck is wrong with you?

gmol - 2018-09-27
Sure, none of those other guys in the room stand on stages and tell lies like that to large groups of people.

This is just evening at the improv for them.

poorwill - 2018-09-27
they were saying boo-urns, boo-urns

gmol - 2018-09-28
I thought of it more as a "It's funny 'cause it's true"

spikestoyiu - 2018-09-26
Trump: "I didn't expect that reaction"
Also Trump: "It was supposed to get a laugh"

So good natured about it that he totally rewrote reality
