Donald Jr. is about to get indicted. If he loses his own son, it's Mob War time. He went into this not fully understanding that the presidency ISN'T a mob family, but he's just now coming to the conclusion that he can resolve his problems by acting like it is.

Trump is more clearly evil and inept. That adds safety. Pence SEEMS nice and normal and all that. THAT's scary!

Pence would do what, though? He would maybe pass anti-gay or anti-abortion legislation if it could get through Congress which it can't now.

And at least Pence wouldn't scorch then salt the Earth when the time came for him to leave.

At the very least, Pence isn't going to spend millions of taxpayer dollars visiting his own golf courses.

Pence does not have the loyalty of the cult of personality. They are sworn to Trump, not his minions. It's why Bannon was voted off the island, he assumed it was loyalty to ideology.

It's like Churchill assuming he could negotiate with Himmler after the death of Hitler. Any loyalty to Himmler was based on overarching loyalty to Hitler.

All I want is for Trump to fail spectacularly, which seems inevitable, but it's seemed inevitable all along. I still believe that there is a tippong point. And if there is a tipping point, he's going to reach it.

I think one thing that led to Trump's success that's often overlooked is that in 2016, the Republican Party produced 15 or 16 candidates, and Trump is the only one that ever inspired anybody. Out of all those candidates, the runner-up was Ted Cruz came in second. TED! CRUZ!

Whatever the consequences, Trump must fail. Even if Trump turned out to be, in some respects, a good president. (And if he was, how would we know?) he's got to fail. Because he lies. Constantly, casually, when he doesn't have to lie. I don't want future presidents to think they can do this.

They say it's an old soviet propaganda technique to lie about everything, but I don't think it's anything that studied. Let's face it, as incompetent as he is, he's not that stupid. I don't care how terrible Pence is, he's not going to lie like that, and if he does, it's not going to work as well for him.

Still, I'd prefer "one term president", to impeachment, and I think he's completely vulnerable, but this may not be in anyone's control. He's pretty much daring them, obstructing justice right in our faces. We've already had more than one Saturday Night massacre.

In 2020, the Democrats are going to have the same numeric advantage in the senate that helped the Republicans this year, and Trump is about to be defied by the house in a way that he's never been defied by anyone before. He's going to lose his shit.

The more Trump feels cornered, the harder he's going to lash out. My honest fear is that as investigations heat up he'll think a war is just what he needs to get his popularity up -- it worked for Dubya -- and give him the excuse to say the country just can't afford these investigations in wartime.

The United States had enough self-awareness so rightly remember Nixon’s failure. I have no faith in the same with Trump; in 10-20 years all the textbooks printed by Red State donors will talk about him like Mister Smith Goes To Washington without the entire GOP going down in flames.

It happened with Reagan.

Only time will tell. What 2018 taught us is attitudes are hardening and this is now a push-pull of demographics: I do think in the medium run the demographics are going to favor human decency, just not by the enormous margin I wish they did.
