I was surprised that HT3 was the most Tartakovsky thing I'd ever seen, and the fact they made it happen in 3D impressed the hell out of me.
It was no Teen Titans though.

cognitivedissonance - 2019-02-12 The story there is fascinating. HT1: some random bullshit Sony needed to make to fulfill a contractual agreement with Sandler. Tartakovsky agrees to do it if he can do Popeye. HT2: HT1 is a surprising success, Tartakovsky does the Popeye test, Sony hates it. Sandler sees the success and decides to go all in on the Hotel Transylvania buffet. He becomes an overbearing part of the animation process, effectively telling animators what to do. The emails back and forth get roped into the Sony leak scandal, and Sandler backs off and just agrees to do voices. HT3: Sandler is not involved except as talent. In solace for losing Popeye, Sony gives Tartakovsky control of the franchise. Crazy shit results.

tethercat - 2019-02-14 I saw HT1 and it was meh. I passed on HT2. I only watched HT3 because it was part of a drive-in double header, and yeah, there were a few times I genuinely laughed hard.
Good story about HT3. That explains a lot. Thanks.
