I am wondering tho, did this guy actually commit any crimes?
They say he had 15 guns and 1000's of rounds of ammunition.. I'm assuming thats all legal + thats probably not that out of the ordinary in the US.
I guess it depends on how solid his kill-plans were, maybe they were just ure average US right winger forum drivel.

That said, I think that just mentally planning to kill someone isn't a crime. What makes a difference is when you also start writing up a kill list, stockpiling guns, and searching for their home addresses which is what this guy was doing. Having a plan to kill Superman is legally different from sourcing some kryptonite and carrying it around all day.
Additionally, since this guy was a wannabe terrorist I'm sure there are all kinds of special rules around that.
Incidentally the charge he was arrested for was "possession of a firearm by an addict of a controlled substance" (Tramadol, an opioid).
