Gameplay usually ENDED around 2:50 for me, Spy Hunter was pretty brutal.

After losing a quarter or two I usually ended up on the Bomb Jack machine next to it at the bowling alley.

Loved playing this one. Dumped a lot of quarters into it when I was 7 or 8. I never figured out what I was supposed to be doing in this game and watching this video all these years later isn't clearing anything up for me.

As one of the younger POE posters I'd just like to say that this is a true classic. I first played a flash port of spy hunter online and It destroyed my young life. Thankfully I live in a city that still has arcades so I've been able to play the real deal a few times.

Everything about this game is perfect for what it is, the awesome jazzy themes, the fast scrolling screen, the powerups, evading enemy spy cars. It's just amazing. Of course, I suck at it.

I love this game much like OZ did, but I gotta say, the player here in this video sucks ass, OK? Hardly ever uses the oil slick, I never see him battering other hostile cars off the road, etc, very little machine gun.

It's like a speedrun rather than a playthrough is what I'm saying.

5 stars for Motherfucking Spy Hunter, though.

And a big shout out to Rocky's Pizza in Battleground, WA, where many a quarter was wasted on this game!! (and Rocky's is still there, but no more Spy Hunter, just Galaga and Donkey Kong and some pinball).

I haven't played this on an emulator much but I think the control scheme kind of requires the arcade cabinet to make sense. I can absolutely see how not having that steering wheel with all of the weapon controls on it and the pedal/gear shift combo for speed control would mess up how you play this a LOT.

What Mothership said. I stopped watching after I realized this guy sucks and is just using cheats galore to tour the landscape. But I'd forgotten there was a boat stage (probably because I, like all mortals, suck at this game, and never reached it) so that reminder's worth some stars. But I'd rather give them to whoever the people were at Edgewater, the massive arcade we used to have in my town long before it became a stupid Imax theater, who COULD reach the damn boat stage. Legendary.
