my favorite comment, on another video;

"The drummer is playing an alternating 10/9/7 polyrhythm between the hi-hat, bass drum and sticks. Meanwhile the guitar and vocals, in unison, alternate between bars of 3.5/4, 1/8, 4/3 and 52.1/the square root of pi."

remember bill and ted's excellent adventure? That was actually a heavily modified Shaggs biopic. In the near future scientists will crack the code, and we'll be living in a new utopia!

cognitivedissonance - 2019-03-09

"best" and "worst" no longer apply to what we do here.

badideasinaction - 2019-03-09

So just putting this out there, are we all getting the same video recommendations now? I’ve been ignoring this one for about a week sidings I’m pretty sure it covered all I knew about them already, it’s just weird that a bunch of videos on poe recently are ones that have been in my feed as well.

Is YouTube just pushing the same 100 videos to everyone or are we all in a very similar demographic?

jangbones - 2019-03-09

Easily a third of my submission list is insanity, right wing lunatics, Pastor Vicki, a few schizophrenics... if you and I are getting the same videos, I applaud your taste sir.

simon666 - 2019-03-09

I had to tell Firefox to stop accepting cookies from YouTube before the recommendations stopped being garbage.

Nominal - 2019-03-09

12 seconds of the actual music out of a 5 minute clip talking about how it's the most amazingly bad music ever?

The guy's LIKE SUBSCRIBE PATREON shilling alone was twice the length of the actual subject.

badideasinaction - 2019-03-09

Yes, but his patreon spiel won’t get his video demonetized and/or flagged for copyright violation for being longer than that. It’s overcautious but the kinda the norm nowadays.

Accidie - 2019-03-09

I'm with Nom. This is a place for the raw content, not a hipster telling us about it.

Two Jar Slave - 2019-03-09

And if you're gonna have a Patreon spiel, I'd prefer if your worst album ever wasn't a universally-agreed-on joke from 15 years ago.

HOT TAKE

THE BEST MOVIE EVER IS

15 years ago? More like 1975. This has been well known since before I was born.

Mister Yuck - 2019-03-10

Just wanted to chime in with another hearty 'fuck you' to this video's generic hipster voice narrator and him thinking he's the star of this video, over the subject.

Three stars cause this is the first time I've heard of this album and I want to hear more.

Old_Zircon - 2019-03-10

Yeah to be clear nothing personal against Jang here, Jang rules and the Shaggs rule and I appreciate Jang's gesture of posting a short capsule history, but some dude who I assume has immaculate hair (still haven't watched it) acting like they're some kind of big exciting thing when they were so well loved that their record cost a month's rent before I was even old enough to walk is just insufferable.

All vitriol is aimed at the very idea of this video.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-03-10

What's the hubbub? Thanks to a really helpful site I happen to know about called Google.com (worth a bookmark), I was able to find a Shagg's cut within 30 seconds.

I liked this video. It was an interesting story, containing information I didn't know, told with cute graphics.

And that music is BAD. Maybe Mom and Dad should have kept on fucking until they could come up with a bass player.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-03-10

I'm pretty sure I'd heard about the Shaggs, but I didn't know any of this. Nothing is more hipster than to dismiss something because you've already heard about it. There are other, less cool people in the world. Throw us a bone.

I don't know how anybody can actually listen to this shit. Maybe its an ASMR thing. But there's no doubt there's something forward looking about this. I swear I heard music like this in the 80s but, with, you know, music. This was before the Ramones, before the Velvet Underground. They had a great look, too, cute but not glamorous.

Maggot Brain - 2019-03-09

The story of the first indie art rock band.

blase - 2019-03-09

Had a co-worker years back who was into obscure and sincerely bad music. She found a 1970s-era album which was possibly even worse than this. IIRC it was just titled "Amanda"; sounded like either a little kid or "special" kid doing improvised 'singing' and the best we could guess was that her parents had money to produce a record at a local recording studio. Probably almost no one saved any copies because I can't find any reference to it online.

Marlon Brawndo - 2019-03-10

I want to believe it was actually from another dimension where everyone sounds like that.

duck&cover - 2019-03-09

For anyone that's interested, here's the complete song "My Pal Foot Foot":

I was interested so thank you

Old_Zircon - 2019-03-09

Philosophy of the World is great, I've been listening to this since I was like 14 and it still makes me happy every time I hear it.

No stars because I didn't watch this video.
