See, if nerds had kept their mouths shut about this and let them release it as is I would have actually seen it. People need to learn to just step back and let a trainwreck like this take its natural course, for the good of us all.

The people the studio has to appeal to are the adult fans of Sonic from the 90s who will take their kids to see the movie. That's part of the reason why Jim Carrey is playing Dr. Eggman. Someone else could have played the superscientist but they want people who remember Carrey's older comedic acts to be excited to see him play that type of character again.
