This materialistic cult thing really disgusts me. There are many layers of sadness here and human parasitism feeding on it. I'm a big fan of the middle layers where the residents are fucking over and being fucked in equal measure, an orgy of selfishness without self awareness.
Good times. Five for evil, love the existential dread of and hated for society this instills in me.
I once got a job interview with American Income Life. They pretend to sell life insurance. I actually had some temp work with a life insurance company previously so I thought, hey, maybe I can work in underwriting. Well, that company just wants you to recruit recruit recruit to find more people that can work for them so they can set them up to take the fall when bad life insurance claims go south. That's not the pitch they gave me. The pitch they gave me was much more insulting. Not only will they blame you if someone get paid out that shouldn't have gotten the policy, they will hold you fucking liable for it. And they make you sign a non disclosure agreement so you can't talk about it afterwards. I never took a job with them. I did my research better after that. Fucking MLM pyramid schemes. I despise them. They should never have been legal to begin with.
When I first got out of college I walked into many job interviews for MLMs. They'd post legitimate sounding want ads on the job websites, but then you walk in and realize they're going to have your selling crap on the street. They'd have different names, but they'd be rooted in companies like Cydcor and Scentura.
