They're going rampant in Washington. This past weekend my girlfriend and I were camping at a rural river spot about 3 hours outside of Seattle, and as she was walking on a public trail she was singled out as a city-dweller. Some redneck woman called her a cunt.

She replied as any person with a functioning brain and heart would: "Excuse me?"

The redneck woman then threatened to shoot and kill her. I'm talking explicitly said that she was going to shoot her, then started running to her camper to get her gun before her husband/boyfriend restrained her and they turned out their lights.

I made sure that the other family at the campground knew that there were dangerous, drunk lunatics guarding the public river trail. Big surprise, the father had been told that he "looked good for target practice".

It's almost like they're emboldened by some non-stop rhetoric, but I can't put my finger on it..

I’m seeing it in Olympia. What has always happened is people travel west when they’re obviously not welcome somewhere east, it’s as old as America. However, turns out it’s hard to make a living in the only jobs they can get (piling things on top of other things), so they come west not fully understanding even west coast hillbillies typically don’t cotton to it.

It’s particularly bad in Tacoma and Olympia because Seattle is purging camps, they know they aren’t welcome in Portland, and Tacoma/Olympia doesn’t have the infrastructure to rein them in. Add to it the natural persistent performative outrage of Evergreen State College students and alumni and they’re always methed up and punchy.
