This was the second anime I ever bought after Devil Hunter Yohko. It was either this or Twin Angels, which was like Devil Hunter Yohko but with a lot more sex. Eventually, I got Twin Angels as well.

I'm not sure how I went from those anime to things like Cardcaptor Sakura and Lucky Star, but that's no weirder than going from Sailor Moon to Angel Cop. I guess people's tastes just mature over time.

Man I love the old hand-drawn style of the 80's and 90's anime. I need to see this one now. More one liners than a Bruce Willis movie.

My first was AKIRA, followed either by Appleseed, Robot Carnival, or Project A-ko, not sure in what order. It was probably Robot Carnival, since I was a slobbering Otomo fan boy for about a year and a half after seeing AKIRA.

I clearly missed something special in my early days then.

Early anime dubs went out of their way to be as vulgar as humanly possible and that's why they were beautiful. Even Sailor Moon was full of profanity-free insults and put-downs like "sleaze queen."

VHS Angel Cop LJ: For some reason, the trailer to this is the only thing I remember (it was on one of my 30 dollar old school anime VHS tapes). Specifically, when the trailer's narrator says "battle against Innnnter national terrrrrorrrrriiiiiisssssmmmmmm". Why did I share this? I dunno.

When I was 17 my girlfriend knew a guy who used to steal anime tapes from our mall's SunCoast Video store. We copied a few from him until the novelty of robot suits and giant eyed teenagers who save the world wore off. That took maybe 4 months. I never watched another "Japanimation" video again.

Apparently, this anime was originally chock full of antisemitism and Zionist conspiracies. I'm waiting to watch that version of it.

I saw this when I was like 11 or 12, when you're that age this stuff is fucking awesome.

It's making me nostalgic too. Angel Cop, Iria, Tank Police, M.D. Geist, Beautiful Dreamer, Akira, City Hunter, Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll ahh those were the good ol' days. I'm a reformed anime lover; I still love the ones I watched as a kid but I shun most of it now, unless someone introduces me to a good one. The 90's was the golden era of anime and it'll never be the same again.
