Deep into the uncanny valley we go with CGI facial expressions that never actually look realistic. I don't know why movie makers insist on not only creating characters that move and act totally unrealistically but also want extreme closeups on those characters to make it even more of a point that it is completely fake and unrealistic. Is that what robots think humans act and behave like?

"But it's high-fallootin' technology! How dare you criticize it!"

With all the motion capture we have now with faces, how come we can never generate actual expressions that look realistic.

I have no idea why the protagonist is there. Nor do I care, because he hasn't shown any actual humanity or emotion in his face. Nor did the animators bother to script any.

So we have an emotionally dead guy walking up to a bastardized version of Ultima from Final Fantasy with a lot of bells and whistles but not any actual story.

I'm totally confused as to what the real purpose of this thing was. Five stars though for terrifying me with the uncanny valley.

This is purely a tech demo commissioned by Unity to show off various features of their engine.

You will notice at different points in the video they are specifically showing of this tech or that tech which is available in Unity.

(eg. part where u can see sunlight glowing thru his ears)

It always amazes me with the massive budgets behind games or other tech like this, they keep letting the programmers right the stories instead of hiring some starving English major grad student for only a month's supply of Ramen.
