You seem to be focusing far too much on this song. Janis Joplins success didn't hinge on it along. She was a defining force for women both on her own and with Big Brother and the Holding Company. Erma Franklin, however, while certainly a very talented singer hamstrung herself over and over with piss poor business choices regarding her musical releases and managers. THAT is the main reason E.F won't be remembered as well, not because Janis Joplon did a cover of one of her songs.
