Dude is surprised the train is going full speed through the fire zone. Love his assessment of Winatchee.

Thimbleberry at 16:59, that's a rare sighting!

Overall amazing - cool find.

Thanks! I only met him briefly, but we had some mutual friends. Really soothing videos.

The Mothership - 2020-03-25

dude ashtar are you a hobo? Or do you just associate with hobos? also do you hang in WA or Montana?

Not judging homie, just curious.

I was dating and living with a recovering alcoholic who stopped being recovering. Ended up without a place to live for a while. Answered a craigslist ad for a "nerd commune" that used the phrase "not a cult". Stayed at this guy Jeff's commune/used card lot outside of Arlee for a while in a little cabin. Jeff is weird, but one of the best people I've ever met. That's where Jim Stobe would hang out between train trips; most of the piano in his videos was recorded on the piano in the community center.

Anarchosyndicalist commune? Living in one now! They're the best.

Anyone else feel the bad thing about buses is that they are stuffy + have the the fucking radio playing in them?

I think I'd like that way of travelling, fresh air, can see the landscape going by, not crammed in like sardines + no fucking radio.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2020-03-24

Also cus its illegal it would be a bit of a thrill!

Mister Yuck - 2020-03-24

There's a lot of bad things about buses, but I love traveling by (passenger) train and I take them whenever it's an option. I wish I had the guts to hobo but I suspect with my luck I'd end up arrested or crippled first try.

Fresh air forever though, they should make convertible cars for the Amtrak.

Ugh - 2020-03-24

you'll never catch me riding the rails and you'll never convince me ernest borgnine isn't still alive and waiting for the chance to kill me if i ever try

jfcaron_ca - 2020-04-04

They play the radio on the buses where you live? Which buses?

The Megabus and Canadian Greyhounds I've ridden haven't had radio or any audio.

Arcturus - 2020-03-24

Been a fan of this channel for a couple years now. Hope he's riding that Cadillac grainer in the sky, drinking all the booze in nirvana.

yogarfield - 2020-03-25

First of all, RIP.

Secondly, I had a kneejerk reaction to a grainer being in heaven, but you're right there are good ones. It's been too long, and given that the world is hitting the pause button, it might be time to take a trip.

glasseye - 2020-03-25

What a great find.

I miss living in the PNW so much.

casualcollapse - 2020-03-27

What did he die of?

Ugh - 2020-03-29

i was curious too and it seems most accounts agree he was likely dragged to death when his backpack got snagged

so that makes it bindles 1 backpacks 0

Scrimmjob - 2020-04-04

wow, that's fucking awful, but at least he died the way he lived... I guess.

jfcaron_ca - 2020-04-04

I love how he pointed out the home town of Rick Steves. He writes travel books for upper-middle-class boomers like my parents.
