I was dating and living with a recovering alcoholic who stopped being recovering. Ended up without a place to live for a while. Answered a craigslist ad for a "nerd commune" that used the phrase "not a cult". Stayed at this guy Jeff's commune/used card lot outside of Arlee for a while in a little cabin. Jeff is weird, but one of the best people I've ever met. That's where Jim Stobe would hang out between train trips; most of the piano in his videos was recorded on the piano in the community center.
There's a lot of bad things about buses, but I love traveling by (passenger) train and I take them whenever it's an option. I wish I had the guts to hobo but I suspect with my luck I'd end up arrested or crippled first try.

Secondly, I had a kneejerk reaction to a grainer being in heaven, but you're right there are good ones. It's been too long, and given that the world is hitting the pause button, it might be time to take a trip.
