I'm home sick (Don't worry, just a bad cold) and this made me laugh.

Which is actually bad because now my throat hurts.

But I still love it.

Get well soon! Much love from PoE!

Called into work yesterday to let shift supervisor know I wouldn't be in. She told me to get some rest & hoped I would feel better. Called back this morning to let her know I wouldn't be in and got the store manager. She was a huge asshole about it.

She said she had called me yesterday, but I never returned her call. There's no record of her calling me. No missed call. No voice mail. And anyway, even though I slept most of the day, my phone was right next to me and would likely have woken me up. She has called me before so her contact info is in the phone for sure. No unknown numbers called, either. There were zero incoming calls on my phone yesterday. I don't know who she called, but it wasn't me.

She told me I need to call her personal number whenever I'm going to be out sick. Well, for one thing, she's supposed to be on a 2 week vacation. (Probably got cut short by the virus which is why she's being such a huge asshole. Sorry, but it's not my fault.) And the rules say when the manager is out you just have to contact your immediate supervisor, which I totally fucking did.

She asked if I had been to the doctor. I haven't because I'm pretty sure it's just a bad cold I picked up from a trip to the dentist Tuesday morning. (This has happened before.) She told me I needed to go to the doctor. I told her I had planned on calling them as soon as they opened, but wasn't sure if they would even see me. My symptoms definitely don't match COVID19, so I'm not sure they will.

She asked my symptoms, so I told her. I have stuffy runny sinuses, sore throat, scratchy bronchial tube, lots of mucus, headaches, aching joints, chills & low fever.

"What's your temperature?" she demanded.

"97.3"

"That's not a fever!"

I explained to her 96.1 is normal for me, so consistently being above 97 is a low fever in my case. She's still acting like I'm either lying or that I should still be able to come into work with my symptoms. This despite the fact my voice sounds like I've been gargling with lye & gravel.

Understand, I work for a military exchange. I was working in support but developed a physical disability so I'm a cashier now since I have to stay off my feet. I've been terrified since this whole thing started. My 77-year-old father lives with me as does my immunocompromised sister. For the last 2 weeks, we've been serving customers from literally all over the country who have passed through multiple airports to get here.

Wednesday, the base I work at cleared an entire bachelor housing building, moving the students to another building on the other side of base. This is what we know for sure. The rumor we can't confirm is that this was done because someone in the building tested positive for the coronavirus. We were super busy Wednesday because all the people being moved showed up to buy new cleaning & hygiene supplies. And EVERYONE was coming in to buy huge loads of snacks in case of a quarantine.

I'm already worried, I don't need more anxiety from an asshole boss on top of it.

Update:

Doctor didn't want to see me unless I was checked for coronavirus.

Called health dept. who told me to call drive-in coronavirus screening at hospital.

Hospital told me I didn't qualify for coronavirus screening and told me to tell doctor that.

Doctor finally gave me appointment for 3pm.

Called boss back. She was much nicer because someone else had answered the phone and was presumably still standing right there. She acted like her only concern was getting me checked for coronavirus.

Fuck that boss Binro. Many sympathies. Feel better soon, and maybe take an extra day for yourself when you do.

Binro the Heretic - 2020-03-21

Just a cold, as I suspected. I got amoxicillin & some OTC meds.

I'll try going back to work Monday.
