I have not seen this film. Is it really as shit as its reputation?
Cus from the looks of this its closer to the books + they went to a lot of effort with the effects (eg. not just having 100% cg squirrels)
Maybe its actually great but just ure average philistine doesnt appreciate it?

The film was awful. The pacing was all wrong and Jonny Depp phoned in a lifeless Wonka. It’s funny how warm and sweet this making-of film is. If you watch the 4 minute scene they created ( https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HBi9tJAABGM ) it’s completely sterile, no tension or magic at all. Blame the director, and very likely a lack of people who can say no to him.

Depp's performance sucked. Wilder showed a subtle madness to his character, while Depp's Wonka was like, "I'm so wacky and kooky. Look how crazy and zany I am!!!"
