By the way, politically we were in a great situation, there had been a general election like *days* before corona arrived. A government had not been formed yet... The old government was still operating, the election was over, so they didnt need to curry peoples favour for votes, they could just freely do whatever was best.

The difference is that half of America’s elected officials are elected to destroy the government.

Here in Manitoba we've been fortunate as well, our Chief Medical Dwarf called for specific measures and they were implemented and the people have been pretty good about following the rules. Of course you still have young men (the Invulnerables) and Canadian right-wing nuts running around flouting the rules. And kids, tons of kids, running in packs everywhere like wild dogs.

But mostly it's been good and our numbers reflect it. We're starting to relax some of the restrictions already and keeping an eye on the numbers in case we have to hunker down again but right now our biggest risk is knuckleheads from abroad coming in here and spitting on everyone.

Here in the United States we're doing amazingly, we've completely solved the pandemic even though it never existed to begin with and we're going to be completely back to normal by next week USA USA USA #1

Every single president or vice-president or presidential nominee in my lifetime would have handled this one better than Trump has, with the notable exception of Sarah Palin. Even Dan Quayle would have done better than Trump has. Bob Dole, who is like, 105 years old, would probably done a better job if he was sitting at the Resolute Desk this very minute.

That desk is the core problem in American politics. Real change can't happen until the Resolute Desk is replaced with a slab-grey Best Buy kit and the Oval Office's lights are downgraded to brutal wavering fluorescents. Do that, and measured administration on behalf of the American people will gradually follow along. I'm not kidding.

IMHO doing large, process-disrupting, investigations in the middle of a crisis isn't good. (also those involve a lot of people going around doing interviews, going in to offices reviewing paperwork, in the middle of a pandemic)

The best thing they could do is fight for financial aid to those in need, get financial aid to states, actually get PPE and medical supply production going, and force real oversight. After things settle down is when the investigations can start. Because again, Bitch McConnel is still running the senate and nothing will happen until after the election.
