It's bizarre to me how this age old intellectual property still has this endless devotion of people who can't stop obsessing over it.

Doomcock's rumors always turn out to be bullshit. I suspect half his brain makes this stuff up and the other half becomes convinced it's real.

It's like QAnon is going to save Star Wars.

SolRo - 2020-07-02

The first two movies were okay, just the last one shit all over them and itself.

I loved the way that parts 7 and 8 expanded the arc of the three principals from 4-6 in dark and complex ways, and I loved the mature, seasoned performances of Hamil, Ford, and Fisher. These characters became so much more interesting to me, especially Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi, which is probably my favorite episode of all nine. Apparently, Doomcock wanted all of these 70 year old actors to get together and take the Millenium Falcon for one more run at one more Death Star. He wanted to see "The Return of the Empire Strikes Back", or "An Old Hope".

Part Nine is all about Kylo and Rae. It's more interesting than Anakin and... I want to say Amadala? However, that was a pretty low bar. ( Even with a subscription to Disney Plus, I have never been able to sit through "Attack of the Clones.")

The thing that really makes this classic bitchboy nonsense is that Doomcock has found a woman, Kathleen Kennedy, to blame for all of his pain.

Think about it... the three principles reprise their roles one and this whiny little bitch wants to discard all that, because he doesn't approve of Leia floating and whatnot. He thinks he's a fan, but he wants to be a tyrant. It's like this fuckboy I read in some blog, who called Carrie Fisher a cunt for advising Daisy Ridley against letting herself be stuck in a slave girl bikini for the next forty years of merchandising. That kind of disrespect doesn't make you a nerd. It makes you a turd.

( I was going to make fun of Doomcock's ridiculous name, but then for reasons which are probably obvious, I thought maybe I'd better not.)

Disney ruined Star Wars: how they lost me.

First, Ignoring the Star Wars expanded universe. No Thrawn? No Mara Jade? WTF?

Second, they ruined Luke Skywalker & Kylo Ren was the only interesting one in that sorry lot.

Third, it felt like unorganized fan fiction. The main character did everything right the first time & was never really challenged. Compare that to Luke getting his ass handed to him & having to be bailed out by his friends all time in the first two SW movies.

Lastly,

Well, in the new trilogy. I'd argue that Kylo Ren is the one gets his ass handed to him. As an individual character, Kylo Ren is more interesting than anyone in parts 4-6. He's also absolutely central to everything that makes Han, Leia, and Luke so much more interesting than in 4-6.

Everything that's memorable about Rae comes from Daisy Ridley's performance, but that's plenty. Rae is a counterpart to Ren. Ren is interesting enough.

As a result of this discussion, I took another look at The Last Jedi, and it's not at all clear that Rae "does everything right the first time". Snoke used the Dark Side to link the minds of Kylo and Rae to manipulate both of them, and Rae took the bait. Snoke had miscalculated, and his scheme backfired. It was probably the intimate connection that Snoke had created that compelled Kylo to kill Snoke instead of Rae... but at that moment, Rae was bailed out by Kylo.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-07-03

What I am starting to understand with another look is what a terrific character Kylo Ren is. It seems like everything he does is complex and layered. He saves Rae, fights beside her, and then siezes power of the First Order, hero and villain at once. When he (apparently) faces Luke at the end, of course he's fighting on the wrong side, but his endless rage at Luke, all of it, seems justified, or at least understandable. To Kylo Ren, it seems like Luke is to blame for him being where he is, and all of the consequences of that, including the patricide. He's not entirely wrong.

This is making me want to take another look at the Rise of Skywalker. This is a darker, more morally complex Star Wars Universe, and I am starting to really be fascinated like never before. Always liked the movies, never was all that into them.

The only character comparable to Kylo Ren is Darth Vader, but Vader (at least as Vader) pretty much switched sides at the last moment at the end of part three. Kylo Ren's arc is way more ambiguous and dynamic.

I'm with SolRo

The first movie was great. I didn't know what to think of the second movie at first but it started to grow on me. It is a solid title that didn't deserve the hate. Third movie was... Left a bad taste in my mouth. It felt like an unneeded 'apology' for the second film and frankly that made me feel a little gross. Especially how Rose was sidelined. That and the whole shoehorning the emperor in. That felt like a bad day time soap opera kind of move. Oh and the positive message that ANYBODY could wind up with the Force since it manifests randomly. (Which is/was canon.) Including the daughter of 'some sleazy junk traders'. But no, now it's part of a dynastic blood line kind of shit.

But back to the second title I always got annoyed because I just wanna talk about it with somebody and geek out. Innocent fun. But the only reactions I seem to get when I even -bring it up- are a diatribe on how the movie offends them. It makes me realize the huge percentage of modern Star Wars fans who are horrible, horrible people.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-07-02

They're not necessarily horrible people. They're just horrible fans.

Oktay - 2020-07-03

So they're gonna use the old "it was all a dream" trick but sprinkle it with science and mysticism so nobody notices it. Now that's good writing!

Maggot Brain - 2020-07-05

It's even dumber than you think; they're going to used Easter eggs from VII-IX to undo VII-IX.

JHM makes about good point, you can't get Luke, Leia and Han to come back :c
