Congratulations Democrats, you picked two truly vile and reprehensible people to run against Trump.

Pillager - 2020-08-12

In a time of great justified civil unrest, the Dems have chosen the architect of mass incarceration & a woman who hid evidence of those wrongly jailed.

jangbones - 2020-08-12

and could still lose, against a gigantic loser

Old_Zircon - 2020-08-12

They'll try.

Hazelnut - 2020-08-12

yeah but haven't you heard kamALa aNd pEnCe aRe pRaCtiCalLy tHe sAmE tHiNg?

Gmork - 2020-08-12

You act as if the base had any say.

Please, keep pretending biden was selected by the base rather than being handed the nomination much to the base's disgust.

Nominal - 2020-08-12

Which primary vote did Biden "steal" ?

You guys do realize that the nomination doesn't stop at New Hampshire and Iowa? I'm not honestly sure you do at this point...

Crackersmack - 2020-08-13

More than half of the primary contests were held during a pandemic or basically cancelled outright. We didn't have a legitimate primary.

Gmork - 2020-08-13

So you blame us for "picking" someone we didn't pick and then turn around and admit there was no picking? Uh, ok.

The reason everyone can smell your bullshit from a mile away is as simple as recognizing you're more comfortable with a trump presidency than a biden presidency.

That's all anyone needs to know about your position and why it's dismissed en masse.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-13

I don't blame any voters for "picking" Biden. The situation that nominated Biden was entirely orchestrated by the Dem establishment, to stop Bernie.

And I think that a competent Dem administration that is pushing for austerity and racist mass incarceration is far more dangerous than another four years of Trump's bumbling, idiotic ass. Literally the architect of our mass incarceration crisis and a particularly aggressive prosecutor is what you're selling while we are in the midst of the largest uprising against police brutality in American history. You;re OK with this? What the fuck is wrong with you?

Cena_mark - 2020-08-13

Who are you going vote for, the Dems who were part of the law and order politics of the 90s, but now recognize that it was wrong and are now on the side of reform, or the Republicans presently crying "LAW AND ORDER!!!'?

roscar - 2020-08-13

Crackersmack, you have a lot of dumb thoughts in your head.

Gmork - 2020-08-14

Crackersmack, you are an embarrassment to thinking beings.

One side is worse than the other. Objectively.

One side has a large section ready to back a political coup and civil war.

The amount of horror involved is something you clearly haven't given much thought to.

The abuses by the current administration far outweighs even the most hyperbolic bad scenario you've posited.

You have nothing. Fuck off.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-14

1. The Democrats absolutely do not "now recognize that it was wrong and are now on the side of reform" when it comes to mass incarceration, this is entirely something that has occured only inside your head.

The reality is that the Democrats nominated the man who *literally wrote the actual words in the legislation that caused the mass incarceration crisis*, and he has never shown remorse for that.

He has not promised any kind of police reform.

He *is* proposing to hire more cops and give them more money. For chrissakes read his damn website. Understand what you are approving of here. *MORE* people will go to prison. Police will have *LESS* accountability. This is what you are voting in favor of.

2. GWB was objectively worse than Trump by every measure, not the least of which is the human death toll.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-14

Also blathering about "civil war" makes you just as retarded as the Boogaloos and other assorted rightwing morons. Go hide in a cave and store beans in 5 gallon buckets.

Trump is normal political shit in America, except for a bunch of babies still traumatized by Mother's loss in 2016 and that just won't shut up about it. What *is* abnormal and dangerous is pretending that we need to fully transform into Bush-era Republicans to stop it. That's how you get a whole lot of people killed both short and long-term.

SolRo - 2020-08-14

We aren’t children like you.

We know that making a compromise once does not permanently make us “sellouts”.

Voting in moderates one year to get rid of a fascist doesn’t mean I’ll vote republican 4 years later.

You’re a dumb child.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-14

I've never used the word "sellout" even once here.

You're something much worse. "Compromising" with total monsters makes you Little Eichmanns.

SolRo - 2020-08-14

See previous post

Marlon Brawndo - 2020-08-12

But I have to overlook all her bullshit because she isn't Trump!

We don't need standards as long as she shows up.

betabox - 2020-08-12

I believe it was Lyndon Baines Johnson who said, "The office of the vice-president is a bucket of warm spit." Pretty sure he had a different word in mind, though.

The last VP who actually had to do anything was Ford. It's not like the position matters at all.

But of course, Kamala Harris is evil, so therefore Trump is perfect!

The cognitive dissonance is remarkable.

Marlon Brawndo - 2020-08-12

You realize she's probably going to be president as soon as they're both in office, right?

SolRo - 2020-08-12

You mind telling me the lottery numbers for that day then?

Also any sport scores for that day would be great

Marlon Brawndo - 2020-08-13

You're delusional if you think the VP isn't going to be the actual president behind closed doors. What the fuck do you think has been going on the last four years? Pence does all the work of a president and Trump draws all the attention.

SolRo - 2020-08-14

You’re an idiot.

Did pence install trumps children and other incompetent cronies into positions of power?

Nominal - 2020-08-14

Ask all the families of the dead from the Iraq War how much vice presidents don't matter.

Marlon Brawndo - 2020-08-14

Trump's cronyism is not a comfortable thing to watch. It's one of his most easily cricitizable faults.

Do you honestly think he's doing most of the work, though? Work which requires extensive knowledge of the law? He even admitted that Pence was going to be doing most of the heavy lifting when he got elected.

And yeah, Cheney completely ran the ship for 8 years. That was just reality. Bush was a distraction for the public, but it just didn't last long. Everyone kind of got it after the second term started that Cheney was calling all the shots.

Biden was one a really strong presence. If you watch his interviews and speeches from 20 years ago, he was incredibly dynamic. While he was VP I would say he held his own when he engaged with people publicly. He made some gaffes and laughed them off. BUT NOW? Fuck me, he can barely string two sentences together. He looks like he's always reading off a prompter but he has no idea what he's reading. He has responded several times to criticism with physical threats of assault. It was kind of funny the first time but it happened a number of times after that, which makes me think he has no fucking off switch for his temper.

I get that if you hate Trump, you want anything else. But this isn't, ya know, that much better. This is a shitshow.

Gmork - 2020-08-12

And yet still entirely preferable to trump having a second term.

SolRo - 2020-08-12

Not my #1 pick but she’s voiced her change of position, and she deserves a chance to back that up with actions.

while trump has called for the government to brutalize black protesters and jail them for bringing down statues.

Also fuck you astroturfers.

Marlon Brawndo - 2020-08-12

Fuck all the innocent people she kept in prison.

I mean...the fact is, you'd care if it affected you or anyone you knew. But you don't, which is sort of lazy of you.

SolRo - 2020-08-12

The fuck you care. We know you don’t.

Spike Jonez - 2020-08-13

So crime Bill Biden and Kamala the Cop are helping black communities how? Their careers GAVE us Trump.

SolRo - 2020-08-14

So they hurt black people, therefore trump is president.

You’re going to have to do a better job explaining that galactic leap.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-14

Black voter turnout declined more from 2012 to 2016 than any other voting demographic has declined in one cycle in American history, even though overall voter turnout increased. I bet we can beat that in 2020 though!

https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/05/12/black-voter-t urnout-fell-in-2016-even-as-a-record-number-of-americans-cast-ball ots/

SolRo - 2020-08-14

Who was running in 2012 that couldn’t run again in 2016?? Believe he caused record numbers of new black voters despite being an evil corporate moderate?

Crackersmack - 2020-08-14

Oh man I guess darkies like me are too dumb to know what's in our best interest and what isn't? We just vote for skin color? Goose-step your way back to the Reichstag, Hans.

SolRo - 2020-08-14

You aren’t making a strong case for your intellect

Marlon Brawndo - 2020-08-14

I actually do care about innocent people doing time they shouldn't so fuck you back, SolRo.

SolRo - 2020-08-16

"I actually do care about innocent people* doing time they shouldn't so fuck you back, SolRo."

*innocent white Christian people

Nominal - 2020-08-12

Joe fucking Rogan clips to support Trump's reelection? Jesus christ, guys.

Marlon Brawndo - 2020-08-12

Why does everyone label him? The man is successful because he's incredibly good at interviewing people and he's center-left. He keeps getting labeled as far right by the left and a leftist apologist by the right. He can't win with anyone because he's actually a rare observational and objective commentator.

Nominal - 2020-08-12

I'm surprised seeing it from people who hadn't done the "Biden is just as bad" shtick yet.

You, on the other hand, are always a piece of shit.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-13

What's wrong with Rogan? lol you are such a pussy

TeenerTot - 2020-08-13

"What's wrong with Rogan?"
Well, I find him kind of gross since he Billy Bushed his pal Joey Diaz.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-13

I have no idea what you're talking about, but Joey Diaz was on his podcast yesterday and everything seemed cool for what I watched of it.

Old_Zircon - 2020-08-13

Last time I saw Rogan he spent a lot of time talking about why he believes in UFO conspiracies now. That was I think 6 weeks ago, maybe 7.

Anyway, he has his ups and downs but my working theory is that he got hit in the head a few times too many during the MMA days and has some kind of mild neurological damage* that makes him take on the opinions of the last person he talked to, because he doesn't appear to have any coherent worldview of his own that I can discern. Other than being pretty consistently uncomfortable with transgender people.

*actually it's probably just that he's constantly stoned .

Old_Zircon - 2020-08-13

Just to be clear, when that works it makes him a really fascinating interviewer. When it doesn't work he uncritically platforms extremists.

Two Jar Slave - 2020-08-13

I've heard Joe Rogan is a great interviewer, but I've never actually heard him do a great interview.

Anaxagoras - 2020-08-13

"Anyway, he has his ups and downs but my working theory is that he got hit in the head a few times too many during the MMA days and has some kind of mild neurological damage* that makes him take on the opinions of the last person he talked to, because he doesn't appear to have any coherent worldview of his own that I can discern."

No, he has a fairly consistent world view. The thing that seems to confuse people is that he has a very non-confrontational interviewing style. So sometimes he appears to be agreeing with ppl that he's not actually agreeing with; he's just not arguing.

Having said all that, dear Lord his critical thinking skills are sometimes truly awful, and he seems to uncritically not object to a bunch of garbage right-wingers. (I'm not sure that he agrees with them, but he doesn't seem to disagree with them, either.)

Marlon Brawndo - 2020-08-14

He always gives people a chance to state their views without confronting them with his own. He has a huge following because he chooses not to alienate people this way, and I thank him for it. I think we need more people willing to interview without hostility.

And for all this talk of him interviewing "extremists" which is a term I think is overused, he also interviews a hell of a lot of very smart people. He gave Andrew Yang and Tulsi Gabbard enormous exposure and he endorsed Bernie Sanders. I don't agree with Bernie as a candidate but Joe Rogan never looks down on people that don't share his views. Shows like his should be the future of how people conduct interviews, without anger or provocation or misleading the audience with derision. And most interviewers on networks are guilty of that regardless of whether they are right or left.

Not to mention the fact that he has interviewed many, many VALID scientists on his show. Yeah, there have been a few kooks but kooks appear on broadcast TV all the time. The BBC interviewed David Icke for an hour about how he think the moon is an artificially created satellite for fuck's sake. You shouldn't judge the interviewer for the people that they interview.

Brian Cox, Chris Hadfield, Christopher Ryan, Rhonda Patrick, Bob Lazar, Stephen Pinker, Sean Carroll, Bret Weinstein, Deborah Soh, Gad Saad, Cara Santa Maria, Neil DeGrasse Tyson...none of these people are extremists. They're all fascinating. And he has given a platform to a lot of people I've never heard of before. Which I love.

casualcollapse - 2020-08-13

fuck all your bickering, nobody changed anyone's mind

SolRo - 2020-08-13

It feels like some people here are outraged that the rest of us won’t hop into our time machines and go make Bernie the nominee.

When it’s just ‘Bernie or bern the country down’

Crackersmack - 2020-08-13

it's like you didn't notice us all saying that we're not voting for another Clinton-like candidate for the last four entire years

SolRo - 2020-08-13

You are trying to make sure no one else votes either, because you’re a cocksucking trump shill.

some folks have mentioned that some for-profit prison companies saw a noticeable uptick in stock price upon confirmation of kamala as the VP pick

i heard she smoked the devil's lettuce tho so it shouldn't be a big deal right

Ugh - 2020-08-13

i mean the bump is surely a coincidence but let's be real, private prisons are going to remain an incredible source of slave labor for the next four years regardless of who wins so let's just rest easy shall we

Simillion - 2020-08-13

Being DA will sure give you a stinky record. Esecially in one of the most aggressively gentrifying areas of the US. she faced enormous pressure to do things that can be spun against her negatively during BLM. But if you put on the perspective of the local people wanting her to take those actions it isn't as "evul" as you might guess, it is just the grit of crime politics.

I like her. I don't want gun violent criminals to have cheap bails. I want them in jail so retaliation crime doesn't occur. I say this because I personally have been threatened with guns and retaliation. In another county someone who threatened me with a gun got out on bail the next day. That made me scared as hell because I knew an angry gun owner was free. Kamala would have protected me but the DA there wasn't as aggressive about protecting people. That place btw is San Bernardino.

I don't know why she made efforts to block certain evidence and that is a little fishy. Then again when your constituents are sick of violent crime and you want to take a stance of being tough on violent crime I guess it may bias you to being choosy about evidence or something, assuming you can do such things. There are probably a few people wrongly accused in the mix.

I think written analyses of her record are easier to trust than a Joe Rogan interview. This guy brings highly opinionated guests with strong agendas and Joe has been blatantly anti-Biden all election mostly over his cognitive concerns. I don't really trust his guests unless they are nerds into aliens or something.

But anyway. As the victim of threats and guns and mugging, I don't mind Kamala's efforts. I am sure some BLM activists will hate her guts and scream witch and shit but I bet a lot of them never had to go through what I did. The primary issues BLM fights against are prejudice, bias, shitty training, oversupplied and armed cops, not a DA who looks to keep the worst offenders away from their victims and who doesn't actually oversee those 1500 marijuana convictions that she had no say in.

https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2019/08/01/analysis-tulsi-ga bbard-kamala-harris/

Simillion - 2020-08-13

I will say this though: she really should reverse her stance on legalizing marijuana full stop. I am unsure why she can't see the light there and didn't when she had a chance to get on the right side of that debate. That was a mistake. She would be wise to openly reverse her positions on certain key issues and back it up.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-13

You should look up The Innocence Project before you decide that this particular guest of Rogan's is "highly opinionated with a strong agenda", and also ask yourself if that's a bad thing at all, considering what this man has dedicated his life to doing.

The overarching point of the discussion in this clip is that Kamala distinguished herself as particularly aggressive and unconcerned with the actual facts of the cases she prosecuted, only with maximizing convictions at literally any human cost.

She is an exceptionally nasty example among people in a very nasty profession. You can't handwave denial of DNA tests away as "tough on crime".

Obama kau-tauing to military/dhs pressure is not the same as being a crook but go off i guess

Simillion - 2020-08-13

Meh, the innocence project is kind of like a profit driven nonprofit seeking justice through an 'at their pace' approach, as it won't assist anyone currently on trial, but will gladly take the money from possible exonerees to look at years-old cases that they think they can win. They are on the right side of a current swing to imprison people less, but they will also put new people in prison sometimes wrongfully, see link below. By and large a good group, but not perfect, and if you consider them bungling a case and sending an innocent person to prison "not nasty" then clearly what we have here is YOUR failure to realize that not everything or everyone is black and white, good and evil. See links.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-14

So what's factually wrong with what he said about Kamala Harris's record though?

Simillion - 2020-08-14

All these assertions that "everything she has done has hurt black people" and so on that he makes are assertions, not factual statements. As has been discussed MANY people's actions hurt black people, and SOME actions may help them. When crime rates and arrest rates and prison overflow rates are objectively going DOWN in California over the last 8 years, when drug arrests are objectively going down in the last 8 years, when DUIs are becoming less common in California, let me ask you this: WHO gets credit for those positive changes? What credit are you willing to give anyone for anything positive at all, unless it is Trump? Yes, we acknowledge that there are still HUGE disparities in arrest rates, in the quality of defense given to minorities or poor people, etc, but also keep in mind that San Francisco has the lowest rate of murders by police officers of all the large density cities in California. Are you selectively ignoring as many facts as you can to promote your "Kamala is evul" agenda perhaps, just taking the side of someone whose profit and political motive is in stirring up anger towards the justice system to attract as many clients as he can?

Btw, the bulk of what has helped those trends is LEGALIZING MJ. The full blown decriminalization is next, but there are still going to be big interests who do not want to go that far. We don't want to arrest single possession, but we still want to be able to prevent people selling drugs to kids. We still want criminalization when it is happening in areas we deem inappropriate like school playgrounds, etc. So recreational legalization helps but do we know for sure widespread decriminalization will help too? To that question we have limited data and experience but it is NOT a straightforward answer.

Bebido - 2020-08-13

Bro, stop pretending you care. Virtue signaling is old news. Trump said "I wish her well." to a woman who set up a child sex trafficking ring; also Joe Rogan is a has been who reinvented himself from a tv host presenting people eating buffalo testicles and sleeping with a pit of rats to hosting MMA which is only marginally above a cock fight in a back alley, you're sad for following a man who cant go through life not being blitzed.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-14

So you all have beef with Rogan because of MMA and/or weed? lol pussies

Sonnet 52:

So am I as the rich, whose blessed key,
Can bring him to his sweet up-locked treasure,
The which he will not every hour survey,
For blunting the fine point of seldom pleasure.
Therefore are feasts so solemn and so rare,
Since, seldom coming in the long year set,
Like stones of worth they thinly placed are,
Or captain jewels in the carcanet.
So is the time that keeps you as my chest,
Or as the wardrobe which the robe doth hide,
To make some special instant special-blest,
By new unfolding his imprisoned pride.
Blessed are you whose worthiness gives scope,
Being had, to triumph, being lacked, to hope.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-15

John you need weed and MMA in your life more than anyone else here.
