If you don't have time for the whole thing, at least please watch the five minutes from 11:00 - 16:00. Put a tear in my eye.

Marlon Brawndo - 2020-08-22

Well not everyone can give 150 billion dollars to Iran and arm Syrian rebels that join ISIS. It takes a true patriot to do that.

Marlon Brawndo - 2020-08-22

I'm giving this five stars because he's an incredibly smooth sociopath.

betabox - 2020-08-23

Nope. Not everyone can give 150 billion dollars to Iran.

President Obama, for example didn't do that.

But keep on repeating completely false right-wing echoes from the chamber, if it makes you happy.

Nominal - 2020-08-23

Imagine putting this much effort into this shtick, but putting zero effort into checking off a box in a voting booth to pull the country back from the brink of a fascist de facto dictatorship.

Hazelnut - 2020-08-23

These are the times that try men’s souls

Crackersmack - 2020-08-23

My favorite part of the speech is when he drank a glass of coronavirus water and told us that it was safe.

Hazelnut - 2020-08-24

Our zero-credibility troll in a nutshell.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-24

I prefer the term "advocate for the plurality"

Lef - 2020-08-23

Sure is nice to hear an American President speak and have it move me.

Still not sure I would bet against Trump. winning re-election.

ashtar. - 2020-08-23

The fact that they're offering absolutely nothing other than a referendum on Trump's character–no policies, no vision, no narrative, nothing–is terrifying. Both in terms of the electoral chances of beating Trump and in terms of averting civilizational collapse, shit's real bleak right now.

But hey, remember that all the problems are the fault of young people not voting hard enough.

SolRo - 2020-08-23

“I shouldn’t have to vote for things to change!!” -ashtar

TeenerTot - 2020-08-23

I get your gripe, ashtar. But to my eyes, the house is on fire. Let's put it out before we start drawing up plans for remodeling.

ashtar. - 2020-08-23

"Voting for Democrats will solve the problems Democrats have failed to solve consistently, and are now explicitly promising not to solve!"
-Dummies

Like, jesus christ. Obama spent no time in this speech talking about what the Democrats want to do in power, but went on an extended spiel about how John Lewis voted so you better vote, you ungrateful shiftless peasant. Do people not see how that's fucking weird?

ashtar. - 2020-08-23

I mean, yeah, Biden is better than Trump and getting rid of Trump is good for a lot of real people's lives.

But I'd be a lot more sanguine about the possibility of incremental change after a Biden win if people would stop vociferously defending the exact same assholes who fucked up the country enough that people were willing to consider fascism a viable alternative to the status quo, and then lost an election to Donald fucking Trump.

Hazelnut - 2020-08-24

> I mean, yeah, Biden is better than Trump and getting rid of Trump is good for a lot of real people's lives.

Then vote, dingus. And if you don’t like the current raft of Dems, for fuck’s sake volunteer in the primaries for the candidates you do like, don’t rant against voting in the general.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-24

"Hey, maybe if you vote for progressive dog catchers now, and maybe run for city council yourself, in like ten or twenty years you can start expecting the Democratic presidential candidate to adopt policy that 89% of Democratic voters (and 52% of Republican voters) support."

teethsalad - 2020-08-24

"Hey, maybe if you vote for progressive dog catchers now, and maybe run for city council yourself, in like ten or twenty years you can start expecting the Democratic presidential candidate to adopt policy that 89% of Democratic voters (and 52% of Republican voters) support."

wow yeah you pretty much figured it out there rufio

it's almost like change in a democratic system takes genuine, concerted effort to build general consensus over decades instead of expecting snarky dumbdick knee-jerk posturing and a refusal to participate to somehow magically win the day

Crackersmack - 2020-08-24

It's almost like you're intentionally ignoring that the general consensus has already been built, but the majority is being denied the opportunity to vote for this wildly popular policy.

SolRo - 2020-08-24

Staying at home during elections isn’t being denied a vote.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-24

That's right. The plurality of American voters that will stay home this November will choose to do so because neither of the candidates offers any meaningful change, and because voting a different party into power has never substantially affected their lives.

il fiore bel - 2020-08-24

Change? You think the 2020 election is about change?

ashtar. - 2020-08-24

Claudia Conway's twitter account did more damage to the Trump administration than impeachment did. Russian bots are the reason Trump won in 2016. Toxic online Bernie bros are the reason Elizabeth Warren decided to help kill all the stuff she said she was for.

Posting on the internet is the most important form of political activism.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-24

il fiore; I think the Democrats want the 2020 election to be about anything but change, and that's why they will lose again.

SolRo - 2020-08-24

You guys are republicans. You do the same exact stupid shit where you make a dumb argument, get called out on it and immediately deflect to a different argument.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-24

Sol you're just perpetually confused. Republicans are the people *endorsing* Biden. I'm telling people to definitely not vote for Biden.

Pillager - 2020-08-24

Solro, if the Dems want our votes they need to offer us a veritable FDR like deal.

Biden's plate of Neo-Liberal tripe is just going to lay/lie & molder there.

SolRo - 2020-08-24

Yeah yeah we get it, you’ll only vote if the Democratic nominee blows you while you vote and anything short of that might as well let a fascist take over.

Pillager - 2020-08-24

I'm not a little girl. Biden would have no interest in me.

Also, Trump's just another Reagan not a fascist.

Hazelnut - 2020-08-24

I wonder if the Don't Vote trolls even convince themselves at this point. They don't sound like they believe it. I think they're just going through the copy-paste motions at this point.

ashtar. - 2020-08-24

I demand that Biden tell me, personally, a rambling story about trains. It must contain at least one marginally offensive archaic racial term. Only then will I consider voting for him.

SolRo - 2020-08-24

First it was driving a car now you want story time, moving the goal post much?

Pillager - 2020-08-24

RCP averages:

AUGUST 24, 2016

WI: Clinton +11.5
PA: Clinton +9.2
NC: Clinton +1.7
FL: Clinton +3.6
MI: Clinton +8
OH: Clinton +4.8

AUGUST 24, 2020

WI: Biden +6.5
PA: Biden +5.7
NC: Trump +0.6
FL: Biden +5
MI: Biden +6.7
OH: Biden +2.3

Biden polls worse than Hillary.

SolRo - 2020-08-24

And the only way to fix that is by constantly spamming every message board you frequent with how Biden is the Antichrist and trump isn’t so bad. Then try to convince everyone you know not to vote in the hopes of spoiling the election, so that you can go back and gloat on those message boards about how great and right you were.

You’re a moron, republican or likely both.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-25

I'm not really trying to convince anyone, I just like watching you all contort yourselves to make excuses for Biden and the Democratic Party as it finds new ways to be disappointing and infuriating every day. It's cathartic.

il fiore bel - 2020-08-25

I continue to be baffled by your ability to see America on the verge of collapse and have your only thought be "What are the Democrats doing to kiss MY ass?"

Nobody is contorting or making excuses. They just realize something is more important this year than the normal political games.

Crackersmack - 2020-08-25

addressing the most basic and desperate material needs of their voters isn't "kissing my ass", it's something that Democrats would engage in out of nothing more than interest in self-preservation if they were an even remotely functional political party

Crackersmack - 2020-08-25

to be honest tho, I used to get a lot more "Biden is very progressive actually" pushback before you all resigned yourself to just being angry all the time, and that was more fun

Hazelnut - 2020-08-25

> I'm not really trying to convince anyone, I just like watching you all contort yourselves

Troll admits he's a troll who doesn't even believe his own trolling.

We already knew.

TeenerTot - 2020-08-26

Meanwhile, the republican's platform is literally nothing, other than "what Trump says."

Crackersmack - 2020-08-26

yes definitely do not vote for Republicans either
