Do you see how the media treats Cuomo like he's some kind of hero, despite the fact that thousands of nursing home residents died as a direct result of Cuomo's order to keep Covid residents housed next to healthy residents? The order he made so he could keep receiving "donations" from the nursing home industry?

That's how the media would treat President Clinton with 200k deaths. She'd be called a hero for her great leadership.

SolRo - 2020-09-17

‘BUHT CLINTON!!!!’

Stfu republican goon.

casualcollapse - 2020-09-17

Stop responding to them you fool

Hazelnut - 2020-09-17

Just got my absentee ballot today. Poor Crashtarsmack: wasted his whole year trying to talk us out of voting and we’re gonna vote anyway.

Crackersmack - 2020-09-17

If I actually wanted my vote to have a chance at being counted no way would I mail it in, but you do you.

Hazelnut - 2020-09-18

Whatever you say, zero credibility troll

casualcollapse - 2020-09-17

Stop posting shit just to get on to somebody's nerves

Pretty sure you are just trolling

Hazelnut - 2020-09-17

Fuck you if 200,000 dead Americans doesn’t get on your nerves.

Look. I get it. Everyone gets sick of Americans talking politics in the months leading to a Presidential election. Suck it up. This shit matters

Crackersmack - 2020-09-17

A million dead Iraqis and 2.3 million people imprisoned for petty/arbitrary shit gets on my nerves, and you're voting for a guy responsible for both of those things.

teethsalad - 2020-09-17

...or just don't click on videos that are political if that's not something you wanna see

Fuck's sake, people

Nominal - 2020-09-17

Yeah guys, take it from casualcollapse and stop flooding this site with low quality videos!

Void 71 - 2020-09-17

This virus is ultimately China's fault. China has no animal welfare laws, which allowed wet markets to operate with no government intervention. This is something that leftists would traditionally be against, but the modern left has very little interest in animal rights anymore.

Two Jar Slave - 2020-09-17

What a dull move.

Hazelnut - 2020-09-17

Void isn’t even trying at this point, it’s just copy-paste

Void 71 - 2020-09-17

If you piece together what comments I've made on this site, it's pretty obvious that my point is that any effective solution to a global pandemic that started with Chinese people eating diseased bats (probably after cooking them alive) is going to look a lot like fascism, and Trump is no fascist.

America is a global neoliberal shopping mall. Neither party is willing to do the right thing and close it off from the rest of the world, which is why we'll be wearing diapers on our faces in perpetuity.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2020-09-17

You might actually be right. It's entirely likely that the COVID-19 episode will force us to take a look at how we're interacting with nature. But this crisis also presented us with a short-term problem that Trump more or less willfully chose not to solve, or even do much about, for months on end.

China's to blame and Trump's to blame and the WHO's to blame and Bill de Blasio's to blame and Cuomo's to blame as well, and why not? We'd never faced a problem exactly like this one before, so very few governments or actors were going to get it exactly right. But seeing the president of the United States bitching about COVID like it was a badly cooked omelette he wanted to send back to the kitchen was, as an American, an embarrassing experience. Other presidents would have saved (most of) the fingerpointing for later.

Void 71 - 2020-09-17

I'm in complete agreement with everything you said, but I've never been embarrassed by anything a president has done because I've never felt a deep connection to this country. I'm here only because my ancestors decided to come here to make money.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2020-09-17

Also, a pandemic wasn't a question of if, but when. It could have arisen anywhere, from any number of good candidates.

I want to hear more about your "closing America off from the rest of the world," though, as if that sort of thing is even remotely possible for nations that aren't islands, or hugely inaccessible, or tiny and unimportant could do such a thing. Don't tell me you've gone from being an acerbic leftist to being an acerbic ultra-nationalist rightist, but maybe that shouldn't surprise me. I'm just over forty have seen you around this site for years. It's time for at least some of the kids who went to Fugazi shows to turn into ultra-right blowhards.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2020-09-17

I've never felt personally responsible for a president's actions, and I don't have a lot of the same patriotic buttons that a lot of Americans have, but I can feel certain things as an American. I the product of a couple of long-term expats and don't plan on moving back, but people know that I'm an American just by looking at me so it's hard not to identify at some level. That, and I am genuinely proud to come from a country that has given the world a lot of fun art and music and even science. I think our artistic and scientific heritage is worth celebrating and is what I most identify with, as far as "being and American" goes.

teethsalad - 2020-09-17

(The sound of a long, wet, blubbery fart)

Void 71 - 2020-09-17

I'm too anti-authoritarian and anti-American to be an ultra-nationalist, but I'm too embarrassed to call myself a socialist anymore because I don't want to be associated with the obnoxious bourgeois college kids who call themselves socialists while they spit on any proletariat who isn't sufficiently liberal.

simon666 - 2020-09-17

So what are y'all going to do when Trump alleges massive voter fraud, calls the results into question, and mounts a campaign to stay in office and ensure Biden loses?

Like will y'all just let the professional political and media class work things out or

ashtar. - 2020-09-17

Let's make sure to preemptively shit on and denounce the leftish protesters actually in the streets in historic numbers for protesting wrong.

We're certainly not going to need a bunch of people willing to get out in the streets and do some civil disobedience at any point in the near future, like say mid to late November.

simon666 - 2020-09-18

Well, various people on the Right are doing that already. And we know they'll come to a protest with guns and clubs an stir up chaos. Then Trump + co will blame the non-MAGAs and we're off to the races.

To be honest, I think what is going to happen is Trump calls the election into question and pushes that line really hard until everyone is off balance. Then some 12th + 20th amendment solution is offered in which the House votes for President. GOP has an advantage here, because each state gets a single vote and each state's vote is determined by a majority of its congress people. And as it turns out, the GOP has an advantage on this form of voting.

They'll vote for Trump; Senate decides VP, if I recall, and they'll select Pence or someone else. Then Trump can waltz in potentially in contradiction of electoral college tallies, under the guise of constitutional legitimacy.

It's going to be brutal.

ashtar. - 2020-09-18

That's a likely outcome. I am worried left/liberal people are too reliant on/ trusting of process and institutions to really deal with an election where there is significant but vague voter suppression, no clear result, and the court/congress comes down on the wrong side.

I think the real outcome in such a situation would come down to popular mobilization; the right is ready for that and we're not.

simon666 - 2020-09-18

Here's the new messaging I'm hearing/reading: GOP SCOTUS will kill the ACA. Covid is ia preexisting condition and people will lose their health care under a GOP SCOTUS.

SolRo - 2020-09-18

It’s not wrong. COVID causes all kinds of problems even in healthy people, we won’t now the full effects for years.

It will be almost better to avoid getting tested because without the history of a positive test the insurance company will have a harder time claiming preexisting conditions. (And that’s an awesome runaway death spiral for a population)

This country is so fucked.

simon666 - 2020-09-19

35 million raised for Dems since 8:57pm last night through ActBlue. The GOP could have said "We're so fucked" after the Obama trouncing but they played a long game and the Dems gave up in 2014 midterms and 2016. Now's the time to dig in, get focused.

Trying Trump's pick to ACA and Covid and undoing medicare is the winning strategy.
