I’m looking for work in Canada. I don’t see America improving significantly no matter who is president (even Bernie) in the near future, or maybe ever.

Remember Obama went into office as the young optimistic leftist that was going to get us universal healthcare and a more socially fair America, and left office as a jaded, cynical war criminal.

Lef - 2020-10-31

Canada is following its own dark path, it just smells more of maple syrup.

SolRo - 2020-10-31

Yeah but much like the political spectrum Canada’s dark path is like a relatively nice day in America.

duck&cover - 2020-10-31

I want to leave the US myself if Trump gets another term. I wish you the best of luck in starting over in Canada.

jfcaron_ca - 2020-10-31

Canada is a dream utopia to both polarized US sides. During the Obama years you had white supremacists dreaming of moving to Canada. There was even an attempt to profit on this by marketing land in Cape Breton Island to foreign neonazis, but it stopped when the (yeah mostly white) locals found out.

The lefties think we're a social democracy like in Europe (we're not) with no racism (lol) and good regulation of corporations (so far we've gotten by on good faith).

The righties think we're a pure-white (we have majority-minority cities too) anglo-saxon (Quebec is gaulish, plus see previous point) protestant (Quebec is lapsed catholic/secularist, lots of anglo catholics too) country with a strong police and rule of law (see police bumblefuckery about the Nova Scotia shooting recently).

We're actually a state with significant barriers to immigration (unless you're rich or diplomaed), so please stay at home and fix your own country. We'll accept refugee claims when your war starts, we've already stopped the "safe 3rd country" deportations of refugees to the US cuz you keep torturing their children. We're already inundated with US media and politics, we don't need a flood of actual US bodies too.

SolRo - 2020-11-01

I don’t have too many delusions or expectations about Canada.

I know you’re polite racists with socialized medicine.

Which is better than violent racists defending corporate oligarchy.

Marlon Brawndo - 2020-11-01

Of course, they could just stop issuing passports if the government is afraid too many people would leave once things open up (if they ever open up).

Marlon Brawndo - 2020-11-01

or rather just continue not to issue passports. There's no guarantee they'll start that service again. Or even allow people to leave the country.

There's really no telling the lengths the government will go to, in order to prevent further economic collapse.

But guns are still legal, so I say stock the fuck up. There are probably major riots coming in a few days so go to the grocery store and get gas BEFORE Election Day. And first aid stuff, any toiletries. Get everything you need before the election. Just to be on the safe side. Being prepared is a good thing right now.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-11-01

Well, check out this new report from a couple of days ago. You'll only have to watch about ten seconds in to see what I'm geting at. This is a no-brainer for Canada.

Gmork - 2020-11-02

I don't know anyone who thinks Canada isn't racist by nature much like the US. It's pretty well documented.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-11-01

I think this could have been done better. The needs a more personal context or a more community-oriented conext. It needs a context. It's just weird to see these two reporters sitting behind their news desks in front of their fake news backdrops talking about how three people in a row were dicks to her. It's just not that kind of news story.

If this is the everyday experience of asian-americans and other minority groups in America, it's important, but I feel like it needs to be put into context. The first time I heard the term "Micro Aggression", I thought it was ridiculous, but I don't think it is anymore. If it happens to you everyday, it's painful. It defines you. For sure, it's a thing.

However, when I saw "three racist attacks in one hour", I suppose it was accurate, I was expecting something a little more severe, and some in the commennts have been skeptical/

ON THE OTHER HAND:

Maybe I'm assuming that the idea here is for dumb white people like me (REALLY like me about 10 years ago) to get a clue, but maybe this time, it isn't all about us. Maybe the point is for women and minorites to speak up, and not wait for us to validate their experience.

I was going to give this three stars, but it's a 5.

Fuck my feelings.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2020-11-01

Incidentally, how is that the person who is racially harassed 3 times, but doesn't think to record any of these encounters with her phone is THE FUCKING REPORTER FROM CNN?

Marlon Brawndo - 2020-11-05

Yeah that bothers me too. It comes across more as whining. Oh boo hoo someone asked me if I spoke English. Yeah that happens to me all the fucking time and I don't get to go on CNN. Maybe I should. I live in a neighborhood where a lot of people don't speak English. It's just a question. Americans don't understand sometimes when to STFU and stop complaining. Try that shit in Mexico. I would love to see a white or Asian dude go to Mexico and freak out because someone asked them if they spoke Spanish. The fact is she's doing okay for herself and she just needed a story. She's blowing it out of proportion because she's getting paid to.

simon666 - 2020-11-01

If the good people abandon the US for Canada, then eventually you'll have a more belligerent US and being in Canada won't protect you, and you'll hasten the very thing for which you despise.

When the GOP got thumped in 2008 they didn't leave. They got organized and serious. They took the House, then took the Senate, then the White House.

Don't crow and caw, get to work.

Lef - 2020-11-01

for you

Mister Yuck - 2020-11-01

Amen. If we still have a vote, we have more power than most of the world over our future. I guess we'll find out in a few days.

jfcaron_ca - 2020-11-01

I was trying to type something like this but it always turned out xenophobic and anti-immigrant, I'm glad you phrased it better.
