I kinda agree with you both: I really like Linday Ellis, AND I can't find 1h40m for this video. If it were January amidst full lockdown it would be a different story.

She started out her youtube "career" by creating many, many kinda irritating short reviews of movies under the pseudonym "Nostalgia Chick". Then she spent a couple years putting out much better, slightly longer reviews of movies under her real name. For the past couple years, she's been putting out much, much longer deep dive videos about various things movie-related that are fantastic. Only the deep dive videos are available on her "Lindsey Ellis" account.... I don't know where her other videos are located.

Unfortunately, she then got a more normal job writing books or something, and most of the stuff she's posted over the past year is about twitter drama, or sophomoric thoughts on modern society... or something. I don't know. She's an intelligent, thoughtful woman, but when she strays away from movies, her content becomes much less interesting.

It's a very cogent discussion, a deep dive into "Normal Twitter Drama", which ran things around here for the last four years, in case you didn't notice. You're entitled to think this is boring, but you're a fool if you don't think it matters. It matters because it's normal.

She has some alright videos, and that's why I watched a chunk of this, often at x2 speeds.

Too much drama over something I can't bring myself to care about. It's like the local bar-fly that starts chatting about her nonsensical daily happenings, and she just doesn't shut up.

She's talking about racism. RACISM, GUYS! She's talking quite lucidly about how white people don't get it, and how the taboo prevents us from ever getting it. Now, as the video progresses, it becomes more specific to her, but its all illustrative of her main point. WE ALL HAVE THE STINK ON US, and the taboo is preventing us from acknowledging that.

What you choose to think is interesting is you own business, but you're wildly crazily, objectively wrong. It's not about a racist tweet, it's about RACISM. Anything that is discussed is put in the larger context of the BIG PROBLEM, which she expresses quite eloquently, using English words, which, for whatever reason, you did not hear.

I'm not taking it personally that you didn't like my submission, and I'm not white knighting for Lindsey Ellis. I am not immune to such irrational motives, but not this time. This time, I am simply overwhelmed at how very very WRONG you are.

Yeah, I'm starting to reconsider twitter. Twitter has more uses than some people think, but the internet has created an economy of anger. Anger is an easy way to drive engagement, and engagement has become all-important, because it can be measured. So anger becomes a big factor in Every company's quest for the anti-life algorithm.

You Tube has improved, in my opinion, by refining their algorithm and demonitizing some bad content. Once upon a time, a person could make a decent living cranking out nasty videos about Anita Sarkeesian, and most of them would end up in my recommendations,where I would click on them immediately out of rage, before I could stop myself.

Last week, I got into an argument with a guy in YouTube comments who insisted that an SNL video satirizing Baby Boomers is essentially the same thing as racism.

The other day I saw a quote from Rand Paul, who says that his kids don't even see race, because that's how much progress we've made.

And then I saw this video, and I was excited to find such a perfectly articulated response to all this staggering ignorance. I was excited to share it.

I am white, aging, a man of means by no means, but I can still feel the privilege. Here I am, trying to make a serious point about racism on my favorite left leaning website, and I was just asked "how much of her hair do you have?" I'm so frustrated, I could rip through crackersmack's jugular with my teeth.

I have to ask myself: How do people of color do it? How do they get through life without shooting up a WalMart?
