It's got a weird polarizing difficulty because of a very poor game design choice - they give you a particular skill (the ability to telekinetically throw things at people) and immediately after put you up against a mini-boss who is effectively invulnerable to that skill. So half the players say "fuck this" and never use/level the skill again when it's the most useful crowd control killer in the game.
Besides that bad choice it's a very good game.

This game felt like a big step back in all the area it was attempting to do: horror, Remedy weirdness, cover based shooting, and even telekinesis.
I went back and played some Alan Wake. The gameplay in that just works so much better, and the writing doesn't put me to sleep with its bland impenetrable weirdness.
