On my visit to Kenya I noticed the hotels had guys who would control animals with the simplest of tools. I watched a Samburu kid drive an elephant away from the pool with a sling shot. I saw a dude at another hotel chase off a hippo by smacking it's ass with a club. I take it non-predatory animals will usually choose flee over flight unless they have to protect their young.
