ashtar. - 2022-05-18 Comics are mostly dumb but earnest. Marveldisney tries very hard to wink and quip and be ironic so you don’t feel like a dork for liking Star Lord or whatever. But it’s still the same dumb shit and all the pathos comes from cheap melodrama; except this has preemptively been undercut by irony so it ends up being just completely vapid; it’s really not about anything.

Last week I saw The Lost City, a well-reviewed romantic adventure movie with actors I like, and I was reminded just how much less is going on in conventional genre movies than in these busy superhero movies, which are all I watch anymore. I think the stories have the depth and of myth, but they do get rather repetitive. How many heroes encounter their dead fathers, whether by imagination, mystic experience, computer-generated hologram, ghostly apparition, old footage, or time travel?

"Slice of Life", and "melodrama" are mutually exclusive. Maybe that's your point?
This is a trailer. No one is trying to sell this to you personally. If all six hours are about Tinder dating, I'm not going to be interested, either, but I doubt that.
Neither I nor Disney need to get you guys behind thls, especially me, but I've been seeing this hipster impulse to be seen dismissing the popular thing as long as I've been coming here, and I'm calling it out. Its pretty ironic to see a two minute trailer and dismiss it for "lazy writing". You don't have to be interested, but you're claiming to know things that you cannot know.
To be honest, I never got to the end of two of the four Marvel series I've seen, but one of them, "Loki", was pretty great. I happen to like this particular actress, even if I can never recall her last name, so I'm "cautiously optimistic". That's an opinion that someone with no real knowledge and intellectual integrity is able to have.

Here's the thing: Since the pandemic (it may be just a coincidence), DCEU has been beating Marvel's ass, I mean artistically. At the end of July 2021, I couldn't conceive of anything that could make me forget my obsession with LOKI. Then came August, and THE SUICIDE SQUAD. Within a few months, I'd even let my Disney Plus subscription lapse!
Unlike Captain America, Hulk, Spider-man, Iron Man, Thor, Batman, etc etc, the Suicide Squad has the distinction of being one of the two comic book movie franchises to light up the Boomer pleasure centers of my brain without having to resort to entering through childhood. The other is Harley Quinn. The animated series is what got me into DC again, since before your Daddy's balls dropped, and before your mama had hair down there.
They're both new to me, yet they have been around long enough for me to find them quite mature. They enter through the adulthood.
