If you've ever wondered how Liberace came to prominence, it's because he was the mob's most reliable external bag man. Nobody was going to question how much money went missing when he bought a giant purple fur coat or ten piano shaped diamond rings. He could have random dudes over at all hours of the night with no eyebrows being raised. He was welcome everywhere he went, and he was also close with the Vatican for some bizarre reason.
The fact that this was taken from the Red Skelton show means that this was possibly the best part of the hour. Red Skelton was actually a likeable old white man, who in later years, could be mesmerizing as a talk show guest in the 80's telling stories on the Tonight Show from vaudeville and early TV that would compel them to bump every other guest, but his actual material plays as dreadfully unfunny now.
