I'm staring at a clamshell case of this VHS that I can't part with despite not having a VCR in about 20 years.

It was sad when Wheeljack and Jazz and Brawn bought it but I still was thinking 'well they're robots they can be repaired' but not with Starscream, you couldn't put that back together, he was GONE. Shame, Cyclonus didn't hold a candle to Starscream as a henchman.

Older me now understands they all were destroyed to clear the way for new toys, sad in a different way.

I loved the living shit out of this movie as a kid. My grandmother took me to see this on the big screen. She was horrified a cartoon was PG-13 and doubly horrified not by the 'shit', but the 'damn.'

Jazz survived the movie, along with fellow older toys Cliffjumper and Bumblebee. Then Scatman Crothers passed away and Jazz was phased out all the same. Cliffjumper didn't show up again either because Casey Kasem quit Transformers due to the show's racist "Carbombya" jokes.

Season 3 was so bland, thanks to the ridiculously bland cast of new villains. The movie made up for it with the soundtrack and balls to the wall crazy script. Season 3 was the bland characters of the movie minus any of the good.

There were about 4 brilliant episodes though. The Return of Optimus Prime (which is an outright zombie apocalypse story), Starscream's Ghost, Webworld (Galvatron gets a psychiatrist), and Dark Awakening (if only for fake Optimus' kamikaze run).

The showrunners realized they'd made a mistake not long after the movie and brought Starscream back as a ghost, before they even brought back Optimus Prime.
