I stopped accepting, "I don't support their social policies," as an excuse a long time ago.

They couldn't win on the crazy vote alone. They need the "fiscal conservative" vote, too. A vote for the GOP is a vot for fascism, homophobia, misogyny and racism.

If you're worried the Democrats will raise your taxes, don't When was the last time a Democrat dared raise taxes?

Especially when their fiscal policy sucks.

It's great if you're a homeowner with savings, but not otherwise.

My thoughts on this: https://www.metafilter.com/196657/The-Cost-Of-Doing-Business#83017 00

In short, the alt-right is like a flame. Blow on it too little and you'll give it oxygen. Ignore it and it'll spread anyway (they say we should leave them alone, but don't forget that they gaslight, the lie, and they know better than to correct their enemies when they're making a mistake). You need a lot of people to blow at once. See: Keffals organizing the defeat of Kiwi Farms.

Pretty much.

You have this phenomenon of these guys 'doing a thing' as a grift. If you look at it one way they're WORSE because they don't actually believe the whole heel thing they're doing strutting around like the evil universe version of Alex Keaton. They have no belief in anything but hookers and blow and super yachts at the end of the rainbow. And they don't care who they burn through to get these things. They'll just as soon as eat each other because hey, competition! But I digress. They point at the left and say 'Heh, you do it too!' Which in many cases as the narrator explains beautifully is actually true. Which is a problem because the alt right grifters -have to be stopped at all costs- for obvious reasons. I think deplatforming is a good positive step. I mean it's what these goobers fear most of all. They've burned so many bridges doing their thing there's no going back. Nobody is going to give them jobs if the boat they're on sinks. So you rip out the feeding tube. Of course you also further make an example of them in various ways. This is to show any dumbass thinking of putting on hateface for a paycheck that they are going to have a bad time. If you go down that road your life will be Hell. And so will the lives of everyone around you. Don't do it.

At least when the left eats itself it is in pursuit of its own form of truth or justice, not intentional betrayal for the sake of the game.

Eeeeehh...

Some good analysis of right machinations, but the guy declares how a ton of the fault is at the moderate's feet because they consider themselves having arrived at the solution where everyone needs to come to them, but then invents his own perfect white category seemingly just to assign himself to as having arrived at the solution.

It also vastly underestimates the sway of the undecided low info voter, and how choosing to court his perfect "bandana class" over them has historically played out as folly. Not once does he point out the edge the right has that every point of their spectrum is willing to compromise in order to support the anti-left candidate. All of the blame is placed on the "moderate" trying to build any kind of coalition, and none on the hip cynics and purists who reject any notion of coalition.

Crackersmack - 2022-10-05

There's no coalition to build though. The stated ideals and goals of "moderate Democrats" are not something that can mobilize a plurality of the American voters under any circumstances except the most extreme, which is why you see Democrats now financially supporting extreme right candidates in Republican primaries.

There's no "sensible middle" of voters out there to tap into, you have to basically threaten the Democratic base with increasingly hyperbolic rhetoric to even eke out marginal wins no matter how far right the party goes. No political concept has been more thoroughly disproven than "Democrats can pick up moderate voters by moving right". It's literally never worked once.

Crackersmack - 2022-10-05

Like for example 2016 was the "moderate Democrat candidate" wet dream; the most centrist, neoliberal, "moderate", straight-down-the-middle slate of candidates that you could possibly assemble. Anti-abortion VP pick. Endorsed by every newspaper editorial board in America. A full-court press from the entire news media. A public vanquishing of a leftist primary challenger and zero concessions made to the left in policy or staff after that. Basically unlimited campaign finances and resources. A visually and rhetorically ugly opponent.

The perfect storm for "moderate Democrat" centrism, and it lost to a guy that was telling his friends not to donate to his campaign in the final months. There's nobody that wants to vote for that shit.
