Whenever I'm feeling confident about a thing I've practiced for, I wonder - what if to the outside world, it ends up looking like the equivalent of Corey Feldman performing with his angel band on television?

duck&cover - 2022-10-28

There is always that nagging doubt that you're going to make a fool of yourself.

Sludge Vohaul - 2022-10-28

do it anyway, it's for you not them.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2022-10-29

I agree with Sludge. Be stoic. Other peoples thoughts are outside of your control so you shouldn't worry about them.

Cena_mark - 2022-10-29

This isn't an open mic night, this guy has the resources to hire a band and get himself on major network programs. The band is rough as fuck, they clearly need more practice. The song sounded like a parody of all the hokey peace songs of the 90s. I understand the guy has faced trauma, and while music is a wonderful means for dealing with it, this is completely different. The morning shows and the hot chick angel band gimmick, it doesn't look like music therapy, rather it looks like he's trying to be a rock star.
Andre 3000 plays the flute in open mic nights looking low key. That's what doing it for the music is.

Spent a couple decades playing terrible bands, would show up for any gig I could get. no matter how terrible/good the reception I've not regretted any of it for moment, only that I didn't try harder for longer.

Leviathant - 2022-10-31

I'm not saying I don't get out there and do my thing anyway - but ever since seeing a clip of one of these performances (which I can never watch all the way through) I do actively wonder, as I approach something of my own - will what I do be that bad? Anyway, you are all giving exactly the right advice, kudos.

yogarfield - 2022-10-29

This might be a dupe. Either way, I only like his early stuff.

Damn, those backup vocals are TIGHT.

Here's the essay addressing his critics:

Stopheles - 2022-10-29

I like the casual grace with which the host picks up the flag off the floor at the end.

BHWW - 2022-10-29

Was a big fan of Dan Soder and Jay Oakerson mocking Feldman's musical output, the more than likely weird business with his Angels and his self-serving memoirs, both the Lifetime Network movie "The Two Coreys" and the audio version of his book "Coreyorgaphy"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFLxoBFzX9k

They especially mocked how he presented himself as a smart operator who, at most, might have fallen asleep once while someone did something to him while his poor, dumb friend Corey Haim was stupidly letting himself get pronged by sleazy guys in suits.

That and his constantly promising to name the names of Hollywood predators but there was a conspiracy against him, so please send more money so he could raise the funds to bring the truth to light.

Old_Zircon - 2022-10-31

What are your thoughts on the theory that the high powered industry insiders who abused him pull strings to get him on TV every few years because it ruins the credibility of his accusations against them?

The Mothership - 2022-11-01

I like how he just threw the American flag on the ground.

Cena_mark - 2022-11-01

That's pretty cool. I hate how the flag is taken so seriously. It's like holy books. I can understand them being precious back when monks had to copy them by hand, or how flags had to be hand sewn. But in the days of mass printing and industrialization a flag is just one of a million other cheap flags being pumped out of a factory in China. The people who tend to hold flags in the highest regard tend to hold their fellow countrymen in the least regard. If they were offended by seeing a flag thrown to the ground, then good.

Cena_mark - 2022-11-01

Unfortunately he apologized. Said it's his instinct as a dancer to drop things. That's lame. He could have made it a cool stand against nationalism during a time where it's been growing more and more toxic.

The Mothership - 2022-11-02

OK, I'm not about sacred cows, but on the Today Show that is making as statement is what I'm saying.
