I’m in the automotive industry and if I had the chance I would ruin my career if I got the opportunity to get close to musk and just full force burry my kneecap into his crotch with all force my muscles could manage.

Binro the Heretic - 2022-11-29

This is what happens when people with money aren't afraid of guillotines.

cognitivedissonance - 2022-11-29

Imagine what you think about Musk now, and it was exactly what people thought of De Sade in 1790. The fetish is the abuse he of power, and it will exist so long as they’re as masochists who love to be whipped. The new masochist likes to be stomped on by the new sadists, and the issue is not the fetish, but that De Sade didn’t ask his victims whether or not they were down for the kink.

Is there a Zuck cult of personality? I thought that everyone thinks he's a weird, inhuman turd.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2022-11-29

Facebook is like a cult of no personality.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2022-11-29

Zuckerberg apparently betting everything on the metaverse seems astonishing to me. There have always been people who can't seem to get their heads around the idea that virtual reality is not a good interface for anything other than entertainment. No one is going to want to drag an avatar around a virtual shopping mall to order from Amazon, when searching and clicking is just easier. I was encountering people like this fifteen years ago when Second Life became a thing... but master of the world Zuckerberg? At this late date? It does seem pretty stupid. It makes me there's an angle I haven't

Zucky saw/read a sci-fi story where VR was really cool and seamless and he thinks he’s going to accomplish the same thing with midrange goggles and a clunky chat room.

I think he read "Ready Player One" . and liked it.

I just finished listening to the beginning episodes of "372 pages we'll never get back" out of morbid curiosity and that book is so much worse than I ever would have imagined.

Nominal - 2022-12-01

Yup Ready Player One is utter trash and you are correct for thinking less of people you formerly respected liking it.

I've said it before, but it's amazing how Ernest Kline utterly fails at portraying any aspect of gaming, the internet, or nerd culture in general despite all 3 having been around for over 20 years.

Contrast that to something like Ender's Game that accurately portrayed the evolution of competitive online multiplayer game metas about 15 years before they existed.

What really gets me are the people claiming that RPO was good, but Armada and Ready Player Two are trash. THEY ARE ALL THE SAME BOOK.

Nothing will prepare you for the part where the characters enter a boss battle against every incarnation of Prince, in a sequence so cringe worthy I can online imagine he was trying to "homage" Scott Pilgrim and utterly failed.

Nominal - 2022-12-01

Other stuff Cline tried to portray and failed at:

ARGs- Been around over 20 years, doesn't understand that hardcore communities would solve any one in under 48 hours.

Virtual Reality- A man in the year 2011, depicting virtual reality in the year 2045, writes it like what everyone thought virtual reality would be like in 1991.

Racing games- In nearly a decade, not a single player in the most popular online racing game in the world had tried to drive backwards.

Nerd movie quoting- Nobody memorizes War Games like it's Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Nobody cares about any of the lines not from the computer.

Pretty much everything he tries to portray is at least 10 years out of date without any understanding to begin with. It comes like your dad trying to write a book on 80s hair metal, but all he ever mentions is Kiss and Scorpions.

SolRo - 2022-12-03

There actually is one racing game where drivers would go in reverse.

It was to exploit a bug that made the car keep accelerating to stupid speeds while it was driven in reverse, to set world records on lap times.

But believe the book predates that game.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2022-11-29

I feel like Trump should have been mentioned. He's the ultimate example of this sort of nonsense.

SolRo - 2022-11-29

Everyone who isn’t an idiot knows trump is an idiot.

These charlatans have fooled some normal people though.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2022-11-30

Well, maybe, at this late date, though I think you're being a trifle condescending. The way I'd put it is "everyone who isn't in the cult". I don't think anyone should take it for granted that they couldn't be seduced by a cult, under the right conditions.

Most of us are wise to him by now, but Trump has been fooling normal people for decades. My earliest memories of Trump date back to the eighties, when he leveraged his messy public divorce into a New York tabloid sensation. Every fucking day Donald and Ivanka were on the front page of the New York tabloids that were available upstate, where I was enrolled at Binghamton. What we know now is that that Trump was probably the source of these stories, which would certainly explain the famous headline: "BEST SEX I EVER HAD", supposedly quoting Marla Maples.

Musk wants to be Trump, but I think he blew it when he bought Twitter. This is going to be a lot more of a public failure than Trump Steaks.

It was pretty stupid of Elon, reinstating Trump to Twitter. Trump, of course, has his own social media site, so he's not going to mess with any social media he can't control, and now Elon seems to have spurred a mass exodus of non-cult members.

SolRo - 2022-11-30

Anyone post 2010 who thought trump is anything but a massive idiot is either a fucking moron or not paying attention at all.

It’s just so obvious that there’s no excuse anymore.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2022-11-30

To put it in Adam Conover's terms, Trump is a genius at telling us he's a genius. I think he's a lot smarter than I once believed. How much intelligence does it take to be the world's most successful liar? Surely some.

If it weren't for climate change, I would envy the historians of the future. This era is going to be a lot more fun to study than to live through.

SolRo - 2022-11-30

Trump isn’t even a good liar. He just has no shame and his dunning Kruger means he is confidently stupid.

Just listen to any of his unedited, unscripted speeches. He’s a total fucking idiot.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2022-11-30

I've been awake for roughly 2/3 of the past seven years. I've heard him speak. Look at the results, though.

SolRo - 2022-11-30

Yeah America has a shit to of utter fucking idiots who support their retarded Kong.
