Not new though. Every country involved in a war has to censor it to some extent, lest support wane.

No county's government has to censor anything from its citizens. The only reason to do this is to redirect the society's energy towards a purpose it would not choose if the truth were known. Usually a purpose detrimental to the society itself.

They're not super fond of you now. I remember in highschool we had a unit on American Imperialism in which America didn't exactly come off smelling like roses, and that was before the Iraq war.
