If any movie embodies a perfectly-executed 180 in terms of tone and subject matter, it's Pleasantville.
I remember the feeling when I first saw it, of amazement that it was going for depth instead of some cheesy "let's make fun of bad sitcoms" route.
I've never watched this and don't particularly intend to, but I always wondered if it were inspired by The Giver.
Is this one of the only big movies where William H Macy doesn't come to some kind of a gruesome end?
