These guys were dead anyhow. I suppose it's better off they dies fast, as hero, than slowly as discarded decomposing radiation victims.

You know, I can't help but feel that this accident could have been avoided.
Also, if I remember correctly, it was the firefighting efforts that made the whole thing so deadly in the first place.
Well, the reactor exploding might have had something to do with the danger factor.
