Millard - 2007-09-24 I guess it's sound policy to try to hit other people while going in reverse - since your engine is up front - but somehow it makes this whole thing seem kind of wussified.
Stopheles - 2007-09-24 If it's any (dis)comfort, think of the fact that those blows to the back of the truck would likely mangle some kids.
FABIO2 - 2007-09-25 Yeah. Demo derbies are always much cooler in concept than execution. Most of them are reversing into the other guy at 5 mph in wet mud to see who can lightly fender bender the other guy to death. The majority of "kills" are from the shitty engines dying instead of any actual damage.
Menudo con queso - 2007-09-24 I keep hoping for a Darwin moment with some of the spectators lined up along the side of the arena.
Stopheles - 2007-09-24 I've been to one of these (in Waterford, CT), and it was sort of unbelievable how rank the air got with the smells of fear, gasoline and testosterone. And the buses got absolutely destroyed -- most of them looked like they'd been picked up and crushed in a giant's fist.
There was also a Motorcycle Demolition Derby that night, but it was like a pro-wrestling scaffold match; everyone was so aware of the immediate danger that they moved far too timidly for anything exciting to happen.
Mike Tyson?! - 2007-09-24 A guy died in Orlando a while ago doing a bus demo. derby. He fell out of the bus and another one ran him over.
